Jess Boldt - Mixed Media Artist

After raising 4 kids and moving around the world as a military wife I am now pursuing and finishing my degree I started 26 years ago.

Giving myself permission to go all in and create has been life changing. I am excited for what the future holds.

An artist journey.
It’s so unique and yet there is something that each creative faces in their journey - obstacles.

I have 5 weeks left in Italy in my study abroad program and I am sitting and interviewing some of my colleagues about their art practice, their experience so far in the study abroad program and other life questions.

I am excited to share with you that .lee is my first guest! Thanks so much for taking the time to chat 🥰

The video is raw and unedited but that’s all I have time for this summer and I’m a newbie so I’ll get better over time 😉

Go check it out on my YouTube channel- I will have the link in my stories!

What is your daily routine?

I grab breakfast and sit with my book and journal before heading to school and doing assignments.

I am reading through “the artist way” by
and though it’s challenging, I love how the principle of journaling and weekly art dates are inviting me to slow down and be present. It’s been 2 1/2 weeks in my study abroad experience in Florence and have 5 weeks to go.

Follow along if you want to see my work progress, and see where I go on my art dates. I started a vlog over on YouTube which the link is in my bio.

A project I’m working on.. is asking my 10 colleagues some questions about their art practice/journey, what they had to overcome, and what they hope their study abroad experience does for them and let them share any tips for the viewer aka Y-O-U!

So if you could ask an art student a question… what would it be?

Also don’t forget to subscribe to my channel- you won’t want to miss out 😉

In-class studio time.
It all starts with a blank canvas (or paper for me).

Today my colleague and I were tasked with painting a bust. He did alla prima with oils and I worked with ink and watercolor.
Our instructor gave us great tips and we both learned so much.
Tons of painting studies which allow us to work through
Our process and see what we like to do and inevitably our work is getting stronger.

Can’t wait to show you the student show at the end of August!

Which do you prefer to work with?

When traveling it’s important to not only check out the touristy spots but also ask a local what their fav spots are.
You can learn so much and probably save some money and time!

A huge tip I will be dropping on my YouTube channel- and it’s about the famous Italian gelato! I’ll be dropping the video later tonight. I’ll out the link in my stories 🤗

Need something to remind you to let it go?

Art has a way to speak to your soul. It’s important to fill your space with inspiration and truth.

Collaboration 🤝

My friend Amy is a gifted photographer and was willing to help me in the fall take pictures of my 100+ paintings so I could add them to my website. So in return I gave her an art lesson with some mixed media items. It was a win/win!

We finally were able to get together and had a blast. Always fun creating with other creatives!

My website doesn’t have my shop up right now (it’s down for the summer while I’m away) but my subscribers will get the scoop of when my works will be released.

Teamwork makes the dream work!
Who do you have in your corner? Look for ways to support one another… it’s truly the best!

I have been traveling + creating art in other countries since 2017.

My oldest daughter and I took our first mission trip together in 2017 to Asia. And it was such an honor to play and create art with the kids that were at risk. I left being so impacted and kind of felt I would be back someday. And sure enough I did the following year in 2018.

In 2019 I went to 🇧🇷 Brazil- where the people were so lovely and fiery🥰 I got to do some more prophetic art for the teams there and the locals

Also in 2019 - went to Malaysia 🇲🇾- to a healing conference and did a prophetic art booth

2021 I lead a prophetic art class in Belgium🇧🇪 with a school there

2023- Key note speaker and lead a prophetic art workshop for

And so for those who don’t know, I started a new collaboration with a nonprofit that fights modern day slavery, back in Jan 2024 and for every painting or print I sell, I donate one to the organization ( ) .

When you support my art career, you are helping me bring light into darkness. I am pursuing my higher education so that I can continue to travel the nations and have an impact on society through art and healing.

Thank you ☺️

Pastels and oil 🎨

I got to pick the theme and chose western for one of my classes. I had done a horse, cowboy and now a Native American. I had two models in my live clothes figure class and asked if I could take their pics and paint them for another class.

I learned so much in this semester but looking forward to next year to get more loose and tap into abstracts and more intuitive drawing.

Okay… onto my last drawing assignment ! 🏃‍♀️

Passion is the consistency of goals held over long periods of time. It is NOT intensity or enthusiasm held for a brief moment. It is endurance.
Perseverance is the ability to overcome setbacks, put in hard work, and finish things you’ve started.- Angela Duckworth

Finishing my second year of school took alot of … grit.

Finished this portrait tonight.

Being from the Midwest and growing up watching western tv shows and living on a farm, this theme tends to take me back to my childhood.

Also this week the rodeo is in town! Have you ever been? If so, what was your favorite part?

I’ll drop mine in the comments. 👇

I painted this while living overseas and the pandemic 😷 was happening. Borders were shut down and we were housebound and with 6 of us under one roof, we knew we were going to need a plan.

So we decided that we all would take a walk in the woods everyday for an hour to clear our minds and get some fresh air. I created over 200 pieces in 2 years and this is one of them.

This piece got over 98k impressions since I loaded it a few years ago. Many people have asked about this piece but today I’m proud to say it is going to a new collector who has become a new friend.

Wrapping up my spring semester.

Curious what assignments I had? Take a look.

If one of these paintings or drawings catches your eye, let me know. I’m ready to part with these before my senior year and start a whole new portfolio.

Studying abroad in a Italy last summer was a dream come true.

Being a life long learner I was able to grow in my skills and appreciate different culture living abroad for 7 weeks.

The landscape, architecture, and food inspired me as I created. These pieces are like a journal entry almost.

I would love for these to find their home! Can you imagine these in your space?

I hope they inspire you… let me know which one you love!

🇮🇹

Try something that you are not good at.
You may surprise yourself.

It’s been two years of taking classes that I have really had to humble myself and grow. Taking oil classes at the Academy of Art university in San Francisco has made me strengthen a weak spot in my portfolio 💼.

I will be doing some student discounted artwork for my subscribers in June. So if you want to get in on this once a year sale, sign up!

Next year will be my senior and I will get to finally be loose with abstract and mixed media! So a whole new portfolio will be added and can’t wait.

Also, I have some summer plans … ✈️ 🇮🇹
Stay tuned. 😎

Getting these beauties ready for a gallery this Friday!

🖼️- I have 3 pieces in this upcoming show and I’m so excited! I’m finally getting on board with professional mat and framing. 🤓 💸

This Midwest girl has some country roots and loving the fact that these will be displayed.

Being professionally framed now, these prices will be more than they were last fall.

Everybody has a part of their job that they don’t like.

For me? Marketing. Taxes. Packaging. Record keeping.

What I enjoy? Creating in my studio. Art shows! I have one this afternoon!

I never go into my studio with the intention of selling. And if I ever do then I will hang up my apron. I don’t ever want to lose the wonder of creating from within.

*commissions are challenging and I will only accept a few per year due to the nature of them.

So thank you to ALL the support you have given me and allowed me to be a full time artist!

It will be my last art battle of the season before I go to Italy this summer to study abroad. Last summer I did plein air in Italy and this summer I will be studying Fashion and illustration.

Always learning and growing. Participating in this challenge has stretched me from the very beginning. It’s never wracking yet so fun!

I’m so thankful for the opportunity to connect with the community. Hope to See you there!

Follow your ♥️

This collaboration is one that makes my heart so happy! Whenever someone buys an original or print from my website, I take a print and set it aside for my dear friend Sarah Jane Vegas with !

Since starting this back in Jan I have been able to donate 12 prints!

I packaged them up today and they are being shipped out tomorrow. Thank you SO much to everyone for partnering with me in bringing art to help fight human trafficking.

Love you 😘,

Talking with an art colleague today I remembered some work I did back in 2021.

I played with colors, textures, and composition. I ended up creating these 3 that I thought turned out pretty good!
