Kate Paye has been named the new Stanford women's basketball coach. I photographed her for a portrait series of walk-on athletes for Stanford Magazine in 2007. Paye was player on the 1992 national championship team and an associate head coach on the 2021 squad.

Stanford's Tara VanDerveer is the new winningest basketball coach in NCAA history with 1,203 career victories.

I was fortunate to photograph her at her home practicing the piano and playing with her dogs back in 2010.

“Digital is too easy, in that you can take a lot of pictures at a time,” said Ben Russell, the photography teacher at the school. “Film slows you down because the amount of film limits you. It really makes you think about the photograph you’re creating.”
