Color & Art Lover. Putting Interior Design Degree to use with the build of our new home - turning bu
I love updating our home and bringing rooms to life by adding color, art and style ... maybe a little too often, if you ask my hubby, Leon. Currently we are having a home built - a builder basic - that we are planning on turning from basic to WOW and I thought that maybe some of you would like to follow along as we go on our new home design journey.
Found this fun picture … going in the way back machine down memory lane.
This was me at probably around 19-20 working on my college Residential Design Project.
We had to build a Foam core house using our designed (and approved) floor plan. When I took the roof off this model you could see inside with rooms, layout and all. This took so many hours to tediously cut some teeny-tiny pieces and glue everything in place.
I remember this house being so big that it barely fit in my car (which was a hatchback). I also remember that I got an A+.
Channeling my “Spring can arrive any time” vibes and added a bit of spring … artificially that is … around the house.
I don’t have a very good green thumb (just ask the cactus who disintegrated in my care) so I love realistic artificial flowers and plants to add touches of spring to our house.
Who are my Green Thumb Plant Growing friends? I envy you 🌷. And who are like me and have Artificial-Realistic flowers and plants in your homes?
For those of my friends who are like me and need a bit of artificial-realistic spring in your home, HomeGoods (as Leon has named “My Mother Ship”) has a great selection right now. Happy soon to arrive Spring everyone!
Are you an appliances on the counter person or styled “things” on your counter person?
Me? I’m the styled “things” on my counter.
And, one of my favorite kitchen counter “things” is this Greek Goddess Bust (planter) that I repurposed as a utensil holder. She makes me so happy.
Do you have a favorite “thing” sitting on your kitchen counter that brings you joy to see too? Let me know in the comments what your favorite kitchen counter “thing” is…
We turned this Butler’s Pantry area of our kitchen into a Beverage Station.
It was the perfect location to house everything that is needed to start the day by making a cup of coffee or tea and to end the day with a cocktail.
Because it is just off the main kitchen area there is no need for refrigeration or ice … it is a close walk for those 😉
This area is even organized with all that you need to make cocktails in the left cabinets and drawer and coffee or tea on the right.
I’m also not one for having appliances on my counters so if I have them out I have to make it pretty 😍
Some of you may be thinking … “Why on earth does she have 2 Keurigs on the counter when she just said she isn’t a fan of appliances on the counter”. The answer to that is simple. One is for coffee and one is for tea. … because making a cup of tea right after a cup of coffee in a Keurig is not the best flavor.
What do you think? And … are you Team Appliances On The Counters or Team Appliances Tucked Away In The Cabinets?
Wallpaper. Love it or hate it, it is here to stay.
With the start of the new year and the holiday decorations put away, you may be staring at your spaces in your house thinking, I need to make some updates - this room looks so bland without the holiday colors.
Wallpaper is perfect for changing the look of a room and giving it a designer look.
But where do you begin? Wallpaper can get confusing - what type, what is the prep work, can I do this myself?
That is why I share some of my experiences with the wallpaper that we installed in our home. You can read my post “Wallpaper Wonders” at https://www.GinaODanielHome.com. And if you stop by, leave me a comment, I’d love to know your thoughts or questions.
This weekend we celebrated our home's ( ) first year anniversary.
Looking back at this year and all that we have accomplished turning our home from builder basic into our version of WOW makes me smile.
I just wrote a post on my blog (GinaODanielHome.com) about "A Year In A Life" sharing our one-year journey.
Leave me a comment (either below, on my blog ... or both) and let me know which of the changes you liked best.
I’ve received so many questions on our new yard landscape and design that I wrote a blog post all about it - including the budget, the process and even where you can get what you see.

After 3 months and a lot of work, our yard is finally done (or at least as done as it is going to be for this year). We think it turned out fantastic! I’ll post some before pictures in the comments. What a difference! Now every part of the yard is usable. No more sinking in the mud going outside with Remi. It is now transformed into our summer entertaining area.
✅ Stamped Concrete
✅ Trees, Shrubs & Plants
✅ Bark
✅ Added a Backyard Sprinkler System
✅ New Custom Decorative Gate
✅ Outdoor Furniture and Fire Pit
Operation “Make Our Yard An Outdoor Oasis” is taking shape. ✅ 12 Arborvitae, ✅ 1 Magnolia Tree, ✅1 Dogwood Tree and ✅ 26 Assorted Plants Planted. Spending time shopping for plants and planting them with the help of a friend - priceless.
Thank you Debb not only for all of the above and tips that will hopefully help me keep them alive (and green), but also for the fun hanging out. Looking forward to the next steps of this plan … sitting outside with a glass of wine and enjoying looking at our beautiful work 😃
Next up for the plan - Finish The Gate, which should be completed next week.
Our stamped concrete is finally finished. It took longer than we all expected because of the weather, but it was well worth the wait. We love it!
Next on the list is patio decor, plants and trees … oh, and a custom designed gate. Looking forward to seeing it all come together 😊
Today was the day! Part 2 of our stamped concrete project happened and it looks so good.
This is just the initial stamp process with the powder color still on the top. They will be coming back to wash this off and seal it.
It is looking exactly as we hoped!
Pretty soon we will be enjoying drinks on the patio around our fireplace surrounded by trees, shrubs and flowers.
Today was a BIG day!
Jumping for joy that the weather finally cooperated and we were able to have our concrete pour and stamping started today. Here is a look at Part 1. Next up is cleaning up this part of the job and sealing the concrete, then onto Pour #2 where they will pour our walkways.
We are SO Happy with how this is looking already and we are told, just wait until the 2nd coat of sealer is on. 😁
A little yard update. Not much happened this week because of the rain. Started doing my ”Sun Dance” in hopes that we can pour next week. If you want to also do a Sun Dance for us that would be great! We need all the luck we can get for a break in the rain 🙂
🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🌞💃🏼🌞💃🏼🌞💃🏼
We are starting our backyard project. The goal privacy backyard oasis. Small yard, big dreams. It is exciting seeing our plans coming to life.
I absolutely love my ❤️ It is like selecting each days outfit by going shopping in my own clothing boutique of clothes, purses and shoes that have been curated over many, many, many years. 👗👠👛👚👖👡
I also love that my chandelier not only adds some crystal bling but it is also my light version of the movie The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants because I am the 4th person of our friend group who has had possession of this light and that makes me smile with joy thinking about my friends.
This bedroom space, turned closet, is very budget friendly. I used the system from that my mom and I put together, two dressers that I blinged up with changing out the drawer pulls for crystal pulls and a using a to display my shoes.
Have you ever gifted an item from your friends that you have used in your home?
What a difference taking down the builders sheet mirrors and a little paint can do!
I had this vision and the new mirrors waiting to be put up since we moved in. I’m so happy with how it all came together❤️🛁
Christmas came early for me this afternoon 🎄 Thank you Santa Leon 🥰
In the middle of snow flurries outside, my new Floor Mirror that I had been dreaming about since I first laid eyes on it a year ago was delivered. It is the perfect addition to our bedroom. Be still my 😍❤️
It’s the week of Christmas. I don’t know about you but for me this year has flown by and it is hard to believe that we will soon be celebrating a new year.
There has been so many big changes for us this year with the biggest one being our move into our new house.
At the beginning of the 2021 we had absolutely no plans to move from our home of 16 years (at least this year). But, the universe had other spectacular plans for us and every piece of the puzzle fell into place at just the right time.
We are looking forward to all of the new memories to be made this holiday season and count our blessings for all of the good (and unexpected) things that have happened this year.
Wishing you all a very fun Christmas filled with lots of fun memories. And a very happy and healthy end of your year.
We’ve never had a laundry room. And I LOVE how the transformation of this space turned out.
I wanted to make this space bright and fun.
My mom and I installed this fun and colorful wallpaper that was by-far the easiest wallpaper we have installed!
I found the perfect, semi-flush mount birdcage style light, embroidered wall art and mirror to help bring even more color and light into what would normally be a dark room without any windows.
I’m thinking about painting the back wall a darker color. What do you think? Should I paint it or leave it the color it is?
Be still ❤️
Today our chandelier of my dreams was installed and I can’t take my eyes off of it. I absolutely love it!
I dreamed about this 8 light Clover Chandelier since I first laid eyes on and ‘s Crystorama chandeliers they installed in their homes.
This is the perfect addition to our new primary suite.
I just shared this tip for decorating your Christmas Tree with ribbon in my stories (and on Instagram), but I also wanted to share it here in my news feed because the stories will disappear and I know that some of you aren't on Instagram 😉
This is a trick I learned and wanted to share with you about how to decorate with ribbon in your Christmas tree without using multiple spools of ribbon and still get the full appearance of ribbon in your tree.
Have you already started decorating your tree? If not, you might want to give this a try.
If you do try this, I would love to see your tree pictures. Upload your picture in my comments below so that we all can see how wonderful your tree looks decorated 😊
Happy Decorating and Happy Holidays Everyone!
I just shared our Christmas House Tour in my stories (with music), I also wanted to share it here (but without music .... because Facebook and no music). Our halls have started getting decked and it has been fun figuring out trees - what size, where to put them, and what style should they be (flocked or not flocked).
How is your holiday decorating going? Is your house getting decked? Trees getting trimmed?
Whatever stage you are in with your holiday decorating, I hope you have a lot of fun with it.
Happy Holiday's Everyone!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
This past weekend we decked some of our halls and trimmed some of our trees.
I don’t know about you but Christmas feels like it came really fast this year. But, we are ready for it and are excited to spend our first Christmas in our new home.
Remi doesn’t exactly know what is happening but she does really like the Christmas Trees.
Have you decked your halls yet? Are you ready for Christmas?
All that glitters is gold … and our dining room ceiling.
A week ago I spontaneously decided to paint our dining room ceiling to metallic gold (3 days before our housewarming party).
I absolutely LOVE how it turned out. Swipe right to see a before picture of the ceiling.
Do you have painted or wallpapered ceilings in your house? It is an unexpected design surprise.
After waiting since July 3rd we FINALLY have a refrigerator.
No more having to have a little dorm room fridge inside the house or trips to the little beverage fridge in the garage. Today we now have the fridge of my dreams sitting in the space that once held the mini-fridge.
After placing our original order on July 3rd and then placing a 2nd order from another store (Costco), we finally have a fridge. Costco for the win!
We are so happy we are dancing!
We are so happy we are dancing! Waiting since July 3rd was a long time to wait.
