Not only was Tim Boggs a great and humble human being, he was one of the best friends our Training Center had. Tim was always quick to brag about our program, our people and our mission. He will be greatly missed.

It's with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of brother Tim Boggs. Tim was a 17-year UBC member with local 735 and a Business Representative out of Akron/Canton Ohio for the last 7 years. Please join us in keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers during this time.

Last week the Richfield Training Center hosted the Northeast Regional SkillsUSA Carpentry Contest. Six of Northeastern Ohio's best high school carpentry students competed to see who would advance to the Ohio State SkillsUSA finals, in Columbus, on April 9th. The judges scored the projects based on safety, quality and quantity of the project completed. The schools represented were Auburn Career Center, Ashtabula County A-Tech, Trumbull Career & Technical Center, Lake Shore Compact, Maplewood Career Center, and Massillon Washington High School.

Congratulations go out to all six competitors. We hope to see all of you in our Apprenticeship classes soon! Trumbull Career & Technical Center won 1st place, Auburn Career Center was 2nd, and Lake Shore Compact - Mentor took home 3rd. All three schools' competitors will advance to the State Finals.

Last week the Richfield Training Center was host to the North Central Regional SkillsUSA Carpentry Contest. Seven of North Central Ohio's best high school carpentry students competed in a timed building event. The competitors were evenly matched and the judges were challenged to determine scores based on safety, quality and quantity of the project completed. The schools represented were from Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center, Polaris Career Center, Lorain County JVS, Cuyahoga Valley Career Center, Wayne County Schools Career Center - High School Mapleheights Schools, Medina County Career Center.

Congratulations go out to all seven of these tough competitors. We hope to see all of you in our Apprenticeship classes soon! The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers advance to Ohio State SkillsUSA Finals in Columbus, on April 9th. Medina County won 1st place, Polaris was 2nd, and Wayne County took home 3rd.

On Thursday of this week, Richfield is hosting the Northeast Ohio Regional SkillsUSA Carpentry Contest, beginning at 8am. Feel free to stop in and watch the competition.

To All Journey-level Carpenters:

The Ohio Carpenters’ Apprenticeship Program is seeking resumes for a full time Interior Systems Instructor for its Richfield Campus. Working under limited supervision, the Instructor will be responsible for delivering training to Apprentices in the four year training program. In addition, the Instructor will deliver assigned training to scheduled journey-level upgrade classes. The Instructor will plan, organize and deliver instruction in ways that maximize student learning, employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students in consultation with the area Training Coordinator, and modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students’ needs.

This is a fast paced, constantly changing work environment, requiring adaptability and flexibility. This position may require long hours, including evenings and weekends, and will require occasional travel to other training centers in Ohio to deliver instruction. The Instructor will be required to attend training at the UBC International Training Center in Las Vegas on a regular basis.
The Instructor will report to the area Training Coordinator, as well as the Ohio Training Director and is expected to be a valuable part of a statewide training team that seeks continuous improvement, and finds ways to share and pool resources among several centers in the region.

The ideal candidate will have the following required qualifications:

1) Journey-level member in good standing
2) At least 5 years of Journey-level experience in the trade is preferred
3) Demonstrated knowledge and experience in all aspects of Interior Systems Carpentry
4) Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
5) Applicable computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
6) Ability to work a flexible schedule
7) Willing and able to attend classes at the International Training Center in Las Vegas, NV
