April 2021 marks my ๐ฅ 10th anniversary of obtaining my ๐๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ข๐๐ ๐ ๐ข๐ง๐๐ง๐๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ง๐๐ซโข credentials. Aside from me ๐ฏ tooting my own horn, why does this matter? 1๏ธโฃ The financial services industry historically has a reputation much like used car salespeople, (sorry salespeople). The CFPยฎ designation is an attempt to set industry standards based on education, examination, ethics and experience to grow into a respected profession like the medical or accounting professions. There are steps to enforce standards as well. 2๏ธโฃ Although there is some debate, I think the person giving you financial advice should be a fiduciary to reduce, remove or disclose conflicts. CFPยฎ pros commit to act in their clientโs best interests, at all times. 3๏ธโฃ Knowing that your financial professional has already met rigorous standards and also commits to ongoing education ensures they will stay fresh and current in a fast-changing field. Are you working with someone who is on your side? Not letting perfect or procrastination get in the way of the possible? Not letting time go by without challenging you to take a hard look at your life - Where do you want to be...and how do you get there? Most importantly, who will help you do that?
