What a fitting time to remember this
Speaking of Throw back Thursday and all the latest news about Norton. This is where my "ride" with Norton started. 2009 on the Bonneville Salt Flats with the NRV588 Rotary. That year I worked with Stuart Garner and Norton with the "unwriiten" understanding there would be benefits to me as a photographer down the line. Well that was my first mistake, but seeing the resurgence of the brand and the possibility of getting my foot in the door early, I let my nativity get the best of me. I was promised things that never materialized, least of all of those was just recognition and credit as the photographer. As you can see from this article the photo is credited to Norton. Norton maintains a "racing" tab on it's website where some of the photo's I took reside. As you can see those photo's have been there for 11 years now with no mention of their source. I won't admit to them being the greatest shots ever, but the main picture was shot while driving my rental car at speed, steering with my knees and shooting out the drivers door window, thankfully no one wondered in front of me. I convinced Stuart that this was indeed an historic occasion and we should do a Photo Book to commemorate it, he agreed and eventually ordered 10 books for sponsors etc. When it came time to pay for the books, he suggested that I pay for them, send them to him and I would be reimbursed. Almost a year later I was still hounding Norton for payment, eventually I was reimbursed, but because I'd paid for the books with my Credit card I ended up losing money. This should have been an indicator of things to come, I ended up losing a lot more money in the coming years!
Gone but not forgotten

On 11/18/17 Dan "Hego" Hegarty DNF'd and was lost in what would be his final race in Macau, far from the "roads" he loved, the green fields, blue skies, stone walls and winding roads of England, Ireland and the Isle of Man. He was a road racing craftsman on the verge of breaking through and leaving his mark on the sport he loved. I used to say to Dan, if he ever turned and saw me taking his picture, he was not to look at me, he was to look through me. On the final day of the IOM TT in 2016, the Senior race, arguably the most prestigious of them all, he sat on the grid preparing for what would become perhaps the greatest accomplishment in his racing career. As Dan sat on his bike preparing to head off and down Bray Hill, his body was relaxed and his head was bowed down as if he was looking into the soul of his machine and contemplating the task at hand. When he raised his head I was standing directly in front with my camera. This is what I saw that day. Dan Hegarty Racing
