Florida Now Has Massive Departures As Hundreds of Thousands Leave

According to a report from the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 275,000 people left Florida for other states in 2022.

Among the top destinations for those leaving Florida:
Georgia: 46,884
North Carolina: 42,301
Tennessee: 36,200
South Carolina: 31,456
Texas: 29,975

The main reason for Florida departures is high home insurance rates.

Home insurance premiums in Florida have tripled during the past five years.

The current average insurance premium in Florida is more than $4,200/year (national average: $1,700).

For homes priced at one million dollars or less in Florida, insurance premiums can exceed mortgage payments.

The Mayor of Palm Beach County, Gregg Weiss, dropped his insurance due to a doubled premium of about $20,000.

343,000 people left California for other states in 2022, the highest number nationwide.

Top destinations for those leaving California:
Texas: 102,000
Arizona: 74,000
Florida: 50,000
Nevada: 48,000

Rising costs of living, especially for younger individuals, are the main reason for departures from California.
