Soooo... if your photographer says, "come quick!" and wants to whisk you away for a second from your reception for a sunset photo, what would you say? I was so happy I had an enthusiastic "yes" from these two.

Memorial Gathering for Toni Packer 1927-2013
Dear Friends,
Our beloved Toni Packer passed away August 23, 2013, in the presence of friends, at the Livingston County Center for Nursing in Mt. Morris, New York. Though she never considered herself to be either a teacher or the founder of a religious center, for many of us she was the embodiment of the possibility of both awareness and meditative inquiry. Her love for what she called the work of this moment was contagious and the clarity she evidenced was radiant.
A memorial gathering for Toni's friends and family will be held at Springwater Center on Saturday, October 12, beginning at 9 a.m. To honor her work, the memorial will begin with an hour-long period of silent meditation, then a recorded talk by Toni, followed by a period of sharing our appreciation of her life and our work together.
Everyone is welcome to bring photos, poems, music (or musical instruments to play) and short readings that you feel reflect your relationship with Toni and what she means to you. A memory board will be available to post some items.
Lunch will follow the gathering, at approximately 1 p.m. There will be time to talk informally together, listen to music that Toni loved, view photos on the memory board, or simply walk the beautiful Center trails through fields and woods-many will remember encountering Toni on similar walks in past years.
So that we have a sense of how many plan to attend, please contact the receptionist at the Center, [email protected]. Any subsequent information about the memorial gathering will be posted here on the web site.
If you live nearby and would like to bring a dish to share for the lunch, please feel free to do so. Space for overnight accommodation is limited. If you live within an hour's driving distance, and can offer accommodation and/or transportation for those coming from far away, please contact the receptionist at the above email address. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

"What is it That Dies?"
The following quotation by Toni is from a January 1996 Newsletter article:
Yesterday, as I walked up the hill, some shriveled flowers lined the path - an early frost had snuffed out their delicate lights. Other hardier plants were blooming during the warming day. Your question came to mind: "What IS it that lives and dies?" We usually ask this question when someone close to us dies or when we ponder our own death. Rarely do we want to know what it is in a flower that has died. We take it for granted that the earth displays constantly appearing, changing, and disappearing colors, forms and textures.
A moment ago, there was a loud thud against the window. I looked out and saw a beautiful bird lying quietly on the patio, eyes half-open, the white dappled belly and yellow tail feathers freely exposed. The body was still warm but without the lively motion that ended in a crash and fall.
What is it that died? What is it that is born? A bird has died, another one has hatched, an old man has exhaled his last breath, a baby has left the womb, a flower has frozen as another one opened its purple petals. What is it that is born and dies?
