Luigi "Louis" Amighetti was born in 1892 in Milan, Italy. He immigrated to the United States in 1913 and opened Amighetti's Bakery on Dagget Avenue in 1916 at age 24. He fell for Mary Miriani, the daughter of Italian immigrants, and the two were married in 1919. The couple went on to have three children together: Louis "Junior" (1921), Rita (1923) and Gloria (1926).
Luigi ran Amighetti's Bakery until the early 1950s when his son Junior took over the family business. Luigi passed away a few years later in 1956 at the age of 63.
