A 'policy endorsement' can lower insurance costs. But you have to waive the right to sue. Giving up the right to sue in exchange for a lower premium is a swap that alarms longtime consumer advocates.

Heritage Insurance, one of Florida's largest homeowners insurance companies, has been fined $1 million by regulators for mishandling claims related to Hurricane Ian. While some may view this as a harsh penalty, the company's net income for the first quarter of 2024 was $14.2 million, reflecting the success of Heritage Insurance's strategic initiatives. Despite a reduction in policies in-force, premiums in-force have increased for the ninth consecutive quarter, reaching $1.4 billion, a 6.2% increase over the first quarter of 2023. This sends a strong message to the insurance industry that claims misconduct are well worth the penalties state regulators are issuing.
Big shout out to Tarpon Roof Tarping and getting the roof tarped for our client. Very professional and timely and billed the insurance carrier directly.

We are a third party estimating billing company for insurance restoration contractors. We have clients in several states. One of our clients does bio hazmat/crime scene cleanups. He has a file with Nationwide insurance in Ohio and states that the claim is being denied because su***de is considered intentionally damaging the property. If they had dies of natural causes and melted into the house that would be ok. Its an interesting insurance world we live in.

As many know I do quite a bit of appraisal work and umpire work. 3 weeks ago I had an appraisal with an appraiser from Slide. I listened to this pompass wind bag for an hour on how he runs the family construction business etc etc. He is an expert etc etc. 3 weeks later this dunderhead contacts me back and states he wants an engineer to determine causation on the hurricane of 09/28/2022. He then explains that maybe it was a cat 5 but when it hit land but this house it was a cat 1 when it hit and the damage to roof and doors are not related. He then demands all the mitigation reports with drying logs etc, this was a preferred vendor and I dont have that paperwork, photos of the roof and damages. He has all this info and keeps claiming what an expert he is on "everything". So I explained the carrier had a year to get their experts out, he can get his own mit docs and he has all the photos I have. Note he did not get on the roof as he does not do roofs. So I asked you are such an expert why do you need one? He said to determine causation and he refused to put his position together. So I said no experts and since we are at a point of disagreement on scope of work lets go to umpire. If the umpire wished to have an expert then I am totally ok with that. Well he is now citing policy, florida statutes that dont apply and accusing me of acting in the best interests of the PA? I have a contract with the insured for a flat fee no matter the outcome. And now I am being asked to recuse myself because I disagree with him, not acting as a disinterested appraiser as he states I am calling the carrier on you. 3 party panel bud lets run the appraisal and not re adjust the claim. It amazes me that the carriers are so desperate for people when there are so many competent appraisers from FL yet they pull these jackasses from other states. Amazing
