Buck Leonard and Josh Gibson are elected to the Hall of Fame: On Feb. 8, 1972, the nine-man Committee on Negro League Baseball Leagues elected Josh Gibson and Buck Leonard into the Hall of Fame. Walter Fenner "Buck" Leonard, 1933-1950:

First Baseman of Homestead Grays when team won Negro National League Pennant nine years in a row, 1937-1945. Teamed with Josh Gibson to form most feared batting twosome in Negro Baseball from 1937 to 1946, ranked among Negro Home Run Leaders, won Negro National League batting title with .391 average in 1948.
