Joe Scanlon for Minnesota House
I'm a small business owner and 30+ year resident of Rosemount running for the Minnesota House of Rep
While last night wasn’t the outcome we were hoping for, I want you to know that I believe we made a difference in Rosemount, Apple Valley, and Eagan. Every day were out talking about conservative principles of freedom, limited government, and putting parents in control of their kid’s education. While we might not have flipped this district red, I believe it’s a little bit less blue and that we are paving the way for our district to flip red soon.
I want to thank every person who played a role in this campaign. To all of you who have volunteered or donated, I’m thankful for both your contributions to my campaign and for your friendship. The best part of this race was meeting so many great people along the way. While I might not have won tonight, I still consider myself to be one of the luckiest men in Minnesota having had this amazing experience.
To the winner of this race, John Huot, I want to extend my congratulations. While we might not have agreed on most things, I believe John is a good man and a dedicated public servant. I wish him well in the next session in St. Paul.
Tomorrow is the big day! If you haven't voted already, do you have a plan to vote? Don't let the day fly by without making it to the polls. And when you're there don't forget to GO WITH JOE! I would be honored if you would cast your ballot for me in tomorrow's election.
This is one tough crew. Our last official Saturday to door knock. It was a balmy 38 degrees with a light drizzle. We made it through the day with no frozen fingers or toes. What a dedicated bunch of volunteers! I just can't say enough good things about them.
It’s hard to remember an election where there was more at stake than this year. This year, both safety and security – physical security and economic security – are on the ballot.
This isn’t a year to sit on the sidelines. We need a change in Minnesota and change only happens if we get enough votes on Tuesday.
I can’t say it enough, every vote matters in this election.
We are less than 1 week from the election! Can you believe it?
I need your help. Will you please spread the word to your family and friends in HD 56B to GO WITH JOE when they vote on Tuesday? Every single vote matters and I appreciate your help in getting that message out this week.
Here is all the information you need to vote on November 8th:
Find your polling place here: https://pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us
Polls are open from 7 AM-8 PM on election day.
Let’s do this! Thank you for your help.
Ain't nothin' gonna break my stride, Nobody gonna slow me down, oh no, I got to keep on moving...
Actually, WE got to keep on moving! I am so grateful for this group! This must be one of the best door-knocking groups ever.
If you haven't joined us yet, we only have a few more days left and I'd hate for anyone to miss out. Send me a message and I'll get you the details.
A big thank you to Johnson Madamu and his wife, Vishali Betham for hosting last week's Scott Jensen & SD 56 Meet and Greet. What an amazing event! It was a beautiful day to spend with new and old friends and as a bonus, they served some of the best Indian food I've ever had.
Thank you to everyone who came out and again, a huge thank you to our hosts for their generous hospitality!
I am honored and grateful for the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association (MPPOA) endorsement. I'm proud that Minnesota's largest association of police officers recognizes that I stand with law enforcement. As the only candidate in this race endorsed by police, I look forward to working with the members of MPPOA to reduce crime, help restore respect for law enforcement and first responders, and make our neighborhoods safe again.
We’ve all paid a terrible price for the failed progressive anti-police policies that our current elected leaders have pushed for the last two years. It's time for a change. Thank you, MPPOA, for your vote of confidence that I'm the candidate to help bring about that change and restore safety and security in our communities.
A great fall day door-knocking with Tyler Kistner and our expert crew! When we started door-knocking months ago, I heard about three issues at the doors: crime, the economy, and education. The leaves might have changed color, but the issues have remained the same. It's time to start tackling these things and make Minnesota a great state again.
Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep me from door-knocking in Rosemount, Apple Valley, and Eagan! A little cold, but we're getting it done! A big thank you to my fellow door-knockers for sticking it out with me!
Less than a month until the election, can you believe it? Can you help my campaign by sharing this video? Working together, we can take back the MN House this November and get MN back on track!
Not only are criminals stealing cars at a record pace in Minneapolis, but according to a local news article, they are now also doing laps around the cities in broad daylight waving at police as they drive! While we’ve spent the last year talking about rising crime, crime just continues to rise. The Minneapolis crime dashboard shows increases in assaults, robberies, carjackings, burglaries, motor vehicle theft, larceny, and vandalism this year compared to 2021 -- and we still have three months remaining in this year. This crime doesn’t always stay within city lines making this an issue for the entire metro area.
It's time to put some adults in charge of the situation in Minneapolis because adults understand that crime will continue to rise until criminals start to see consequences for their actions. I’m running for House because I’m tired of endless talk about making Minnesota safer while our state continues to go in the wrong direction. Let's make Minnesota safe again!

While I’m glad the pandemic is behind us, I think it’s worth taking a moment to remember what we’ve been through over the last few years. Walz’s failed leadership hurt a lot of people. We can’t get back those years, but we can learn and make sure this never happens again in Minnesota. And remember, a Republican House would have made a big difference!
Election excitement is growing! We had a great time at an event hosted by former five-term MN State Representative, Ken Wolf. I am so grateful for Ken's support for my campaign.
Minnesotans need to know they can trust their government with their tax money. Sadly, the Feeding Our Future scandal has broken that trust. Over $250 million dollars was stolen in just 20 months, that was hard-earned taxpayer money.
While I’m glad federal prosecutors have indicted people for these crimes, there is a larger question of how this group was allowed to operate and why this crime ring wasn’t shut down when the fraud was discovered.
I support thorough investigations into how oversight of this program failed so miserably. We need to identify the flaws in the system that allowed this situation to occur and hold people who failed to properly oversee the program accountable.
Walz, judge in dispute over Feeding Our Future case A Ramsey County judge disputed Walz's claims that the Minnesota Department of Education was ordered by the court to resume payments to Feeding Our Future.
I also want to share a video that I took of the 5 men who were honored by the Warrior 196 Memorial 5K (see previous post). Thank you to this great organization for helping to give these heroes a lasting legacy.
My wife and I joined Joe Landru (candidate for HD 56A) for the Warrior 196 Memorial 5K on Saturday to raise money for this organization's scholarship fund. This event honored the sacrifice of five ISD 196 graduates who lost their lives serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Funds raised at this event will be used to help students attend college. This is an amazing group and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to be a part of their event.
Sick kids, flat tires, and unexpected work projects all happen on November 8th just like they happen on other days of the year, which is why early voting is so important.
Make sure your voice is heard in this election.

The Vikings might have lost on Monday night but everyone at the Jensen/Birk Event at Cowboy Jacks had a winning evening. It was a great turnout and just plain fun. You can feel the support growing for reducing crime, lowering taxes, and strengthening our schools in Minnesota. A change is coming!
Did you know that states have the option to follow federal car emission standards or California’s standards which are even more restrictive?
In 2019 Walz made the decision to follow California’s standards which were implemented by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency in 2021. As you might have heard, California recently passed a new rule that will essentially criminalize the sales of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035. So far, MN has not adopted this regulation, at least not yet.
The MN Pollution Control Agency recently said that the agency has the authority to adopt ANY of California’s emission standards meaning Minnesota might be closer to banning the sale of gas-powered vehicles than we think.
This election matters in many ways that we all recognize – schools, crime, taxes. This election also matters in so many ways that aren’t on everyone’s radar yet, like this issue.
I believe this will be an important issue for people in Minnesota and I’m always going to advocate for letting Minnesotans decide what types of cars they want to buy – not California.
I had an absolute blast golfing last week at the Eastview High School Hockey 25th Annual Fundraiser Golf Tournament. I had the privilege of golfing with three Eastview High School golf and hockey players who were great kids. It was a real pleasure to participate in the event as well as sponsor the tournament. A great time was had by all!
It's hard to believe that early voting starts next week! On September 23rd absentee ballots/early voting starts in Minnesota. People vote early for all kinds of reasons including travel and simple convenience. You can find information on early voting by mail and in person by following these links:

Every month, the average household pays an additional $460 each month for the exact same goods and services they paid for a year ago. This is a pay cut of $5,520 for the average family just this year!
The best thing we can do in the short term is reduce the income tax, which is too high in MN! Helping people keep more of their own money will be a top issue for me in St. Paul!
Here is a picture from Tuesday's '80s-themed Pints and Politics event. We had a great time remembering the '80s while planning for the 2022 election. The '80s were great but I believe the best is yet to come!
The best part about door-knocking is the people you meet! I met Brad door-knocking the other night and I really enjoyed hearing about his thoughts and concerns regarding our current political situation in Minnesota and at the federal level. Brad is now a proud owner of one of my t-shirts. Thanks, Brad for your time and support!
Will I see you at Tops Tavern tomorrow night (9/13) for Pints and Politics? While these are always great events, Tuesday might be the best one yet.
Tomorrow night is 80's night! So head to the back of your closet and see if you still have that Members Only jacket or that pair of acid-washed jeans and come out and join us at Tops Tavern!
Today we pause to remember the tragedy of 9/11 and honor the lives lost that day. America was attacked and we all watched in horror as we were reminded of the evil in the world that sought to bring down our country. But America could not be defeated. In fact, the stories of courage and human kindness stemming from that day united our country and strengthened our resolve to prevent another 9/11 from ever happening again.
Today, I would like to acknowledge all our first responders who work hard to keep our communities safe. The same type of courage and bravery shown by first responders on 9/11 can regularly be seen here in our community when our first responders put their own lives at risk to help others. Today we honor their commitment and courage and remember the lives lost twenty-one years ago on this day.
Inflation is hurting hard-working Minnesotans. We have got to get this economy back on track!
Looking for a great way to get in your 5,000 steps, meet some great people, and make a difference in Minnesota? Join us this Saturday, September 10th at 9:45 @ Moeller Park for some door-knocking in Rosemount. Hope to see you there!
I hope it was a great day for all the kids who went back to school today! And to all the parents who sent their kids back, I hope you were able to find a couple of quiet minutes to relax.
Welcome back and I hope it is a great year for everyone.
As we celebrate America's workforce, I hope you are able to take the day to do something you enjoy. Happy Labor Day to you and your family!
Did anyone catch the Rosemount Marching Band on the opening day at the MN State Fair? If you’ve never seen them perform, this is really an incredibly talented group of kids. In fact, they are so good that they will be performing at the Rose Day Parade in Pasadena on January 2, 2023. They’re the first high school band to be chosen twice to perform in the parade, which is a huge honor.
Here is a link to the Rosemount Marching Band page so you can keep up with these incredible kids: https://www.facebook.com/rhsmarchingband.
I want to let you know about a great event that is taking place on September 24th honoring five ISD 196 graduates who lost their lives while serving in the US Armed Forces. The Warrior Walk raises money to help students pay for college as a way to honor the memory of these fallen soldiers. It looks like a great event for a great cause!
David Fong is an amazing story about living the American dream. He was born in China and then moved to Minnesota where he worked in his parent's restaurant, Moy Cafe in North Minneapolis before opening David Fong's in Bloomington. His kids will now continue his legacy in restaurants of their own throughout the Twin Cities.
Earlier this week, I went with some of my Rosemount friends to enjoy some great food and pay our respect to David Fong's in Bloomington before they closed their business after 64 years
I want to see success stories like this all over Minnesota. Small businesses are being squeezed from every direction and I'm running for House to help more small business owners achieve their dreams while helping to make our community stronger.
Does it ever feel like there are way too many legislators at every level in government who put special interests above your family's interests? Lately, we seem to learn about a new windfall for someone else that gets added to our tax bill almost weekly! Who's looking out for hard-working families in Minnesota?
I've built a career helping families and I'm going to bring that same focus to the MN House. Your family matters.
Thanks to everyone who came out Thursday night and spent some time with all of us running in SD56. We had a great time talking about ways to make Minnesota even better.
I had the special honor of meeting Josh Alem who is working to spread the word about su***de prevention. I told him I would help spread the word about the 988 Su***de Text and Chat Line which provides 24/7 care and counseling. Thanks, Josh for your important work to help prevent su***de.
Getting the kids ready to head back to school can be costly in a regular year, but when you are buying school supplies and new clothes in the middle of historically high inflation these costs can stretch a family budget even more.
Families need a strong economy that allows them to keep more of their hard-earned money. We have got to start putting families first in Minnesota!
Twin Cities Salvation Army seeing greater need for school supplies due to inflation The Salvation Army school drive is back to help students get the supplies they need before heading back into the classroom.
Will I see you at Rascals tonight?
I'm looking forward to tonight's SD 56 Meet the Candidates Event! I know we are all excited to say hello and answer any questions that you might have about how we are going to win in November.
Bring your friends, bring your questions, bring your friends with questions to Rascals tonight from 6-8 PM. I hope to see you there!
