Has to be a new record - the Rosemount Leprechaun Days medallion was found already, at Brockway Park! Did you know that Brockway Park sits on the site of the former Brockway Glass Factory, a facility that opened in 1961 and pioneered glass recycling until its closure in 1984? The factory occupied the land until 2004, and eventually Brockway Park opened in 2010. It's a popular destination for our residents in Harmony Village and nearby neighborhoods, while its disc golf course draws visitors from around the greater Rosemount area.

One of the more fun council meetings of my tenure was last week, as we recognized several deserving officers. ☘️

At the last City Council meeting, the Department recognized our 2022 and 2023 Employee of the Year and held a swearing-in ceremony for Officer Trevor Wagner and Nick Melendrez. Nick even made a ballon-animal in front of the packed audience!

Last year, I had the privilege of accompanying Officer Hotaling on both Night to Unite and an afternoon ride-along & use-of-force training. Our city is fortunate to have his professionalism and compassion on our team. Congratulations and officially welcome, Officer Hotaling!

This week we toured the Life Time Rosemount, now under construction at Akron & 42. We saw where will soon be a cafe, salon, kids area, spa suite, steam room, dry sauna, cold plunge, indoor pools, outdoor lap pool, indoor & outdoor pickleball courts, studios & group fitness areas, cardio, free weights, pool deck, zero-entry kids pool, and and and. It’s incredible to think of all these amenities coming soon to our hometown.

What's going on with the Speedway? Like most residents, I am anxious to see redevelopment of this site. Since I’ve fielded a few resident inquiries about this site in the past few days, I’ll try to share a brief update:

1) This property continues to navigate environmental review and remediation steps before it can be redeveloped.

2) The City is hopeful that the owner & its consultant will submit a "LSI report" to the MPCA in the next 4 weeks.

3) At that point, the MPCA reserves up to 180 days to review the report.

4) City staff is actively working to find a desirable use for the parcel once the environmental remediation process is complete, but as you can see, that process takes time.

In the meantime, if you notice illegal dumping on that site, you can report the issue via the City website. (I just reported an issue myself this morning.)
