Here’s a 2-story living room we completed this week in Santa Rita Ranch. The color is SW “Accessible Beige”, and we used Benjamin Moore’s Aura interior matte finish paint, to give this family a super durable & great looking finish!

The first picture is what it looks like when you get a few local painting contractors together for a “Paint-it-forward” event.

The second is what happens when you do it on a national level!

In either case, whether it’s a few rooms or a few dozen, the feeling of reward is the same. What an amazing experience to be able to give back to our communities, in a way that gets us together for a day of painting… that doesn’t feel anything like work!

And although I’m really looking forward to next year’s PCA EXPO “Paint-it-forward” event, let’s not wait that long to do it again locally!

Walls, ceiling, trim & doors were painted to give this space a nice 🌙◼️DARK feel without being overwhelmed by the colors. It’s amazing how well a “soft” medium gray and charcoal can come together to create the perfect viewing environment! 📺

Colors are Benjamin Moore “Chelsea Gray” for the walls & trim, with “Kendall Charcoal” for the TV accent wall.

❄️PROTECT your PAINT from FREEZING weather!🥶

⚠️UPDATE: Temps will fall below freezing by about MIDNIGHT tonight, so don’t wait any longer!⚠️

With the cold weather approaching,
we realize that protecting your paint is probably the last thing on your mind. But it’s sill important!

🔹Latex paint can easily be ruined by freezing temperatures. And it’s not as easy as “thawing it out”…. Once it freezes, the damage is done!🔹

And next time you have a drywall repair or a small touch up to do, you’ll be regretting not having the paint available for it!

✔️TIPS FOR PAINT STORAGE:

-Latex paint should NEVER be stored in a non-climate controlled space(such as a garage, attic, or shed) when temperatures are expected to go below 35 degrees.

-If you absolutely must store it in the garage, keep it as far away from outside walls as possible. Radiant heat from interior walls may help to keep it from freezing, but there’s no guarantee! Shelf storage is best, to keep it away from colder air near the floor.

-Don’t store any products near furnaces, etc. that have an open flame! In case you mistakenly include a flammable product (non-latex paints/stains/primers can easily fall into this category!) Paint cans can frequently be mis-labeled, so better to be safe than sorry!

-Make sure all containers are properly sealed. It’s best to store them out of reach of children or pets, and in a place that they can’t easily be knocked over.

My wife got me this card for Christmas 🤣 Helpful tip: If you’re looking to change the color on your house, make sure to start the HOA approval process at least a few weeks in advance. We’ve had some clients who’ve had to wait up to 60 days before getting approval! 📆

We can also do a color match to help avoid the need to get the HOA to approve it, although some of them still require permission from the Architectural Committee. Check your neighborhood’s bylaws to make sure you’re in compliance!

If you need help getting your colors selected or approved, ask us about our color design partners, who can help with color🌈selection, as well as providing renderings to your HOA if they require them!

Speaking of “modernizing”…. Check out this 1984 house(pics in the comments) where we updated all the out-dated wood trim, doors, and cabinets.

We used this same color AF-655 “Silhouette” to refresh all the woodwork.

Centurion Industrial Wood Coating’s “Vinyl lacquer undercoater” was used as the primer with their 400 series matte topcoat, for an incredibly durable and elegant finish!

CAULKING!

This may seem like a minor detail, but it’s actually one of the MOST IMPORTANT parts of painting your exterior!

Caulking gaps, cracks, and joints on the exterior parts of your home, will ensure that the surfaces stay WATER TIGHT to protect it from the elements.

Often times, the old caulking is loose and needs to be removed before applying new, so that it doesn’t just cause the new caulking to fail as well. This is a step we take whenever necessary, to ensure the longevity of your paint job.

We LOVE getting these texts from the homeowner when they first get back from work, and get to see the results of their transformation!

Today’s project was a 20’x20’ tall accent wall in their living room. They went with a BOLD color, and it turned out awesome!

Such a rewarding event! Paint it Forward at the 2023 PCA EXPO, where we’re painting the massive lobby of an old hospital, which the city of Albuquerque is repurposing as a low/no cost medical facility.

The mayor himself came out to show appreciation on behalf of the city. Thank you Albuquerque for providing delicious breakfast and lunch for us!

Today, we’re excited to be a part of an amazing charity event!

We’ll have over 100 participants, many of whom are painting contractors, pitching in to paint a medical center in the city of Albuquerque, NM.

Have you ever seen paint peeling off of your exterior door, specifically from the vinyl trim around the window glass?

The reason this happens, is that many painters don’t realize you need to use a specific primer on the vinyl, before painting it. Otherwise, the paint won’t adhere.

Sometimes it may take a few years for it to fail, other times it can begin to fail in just a few weeks. But you can rest assured, that if incorrectly prepped and primed, it’s very likely to fail eventually.

Our company has dealt with this same issue, time and time again. We remove ALL of the existing paint from the vinyl, clean & prime it with the CORRECT products, and we paint it with a high-quality exterior paint from Benjamin Moore, that’s sure to last a very long time!

Can you paint with LATEX over OIL?

The short answer is YES, but here’s what happens if the prep work isn’t done correctly....

These photos were taken in a home we looked at recently, that was just painted A FEW MONTHS AGO!!!

A previous contractor hadn’t done the proper cleaning, abrasion, or used a bonding primer before painting.

Now, there’s paint peeling off on many different surfaces, and the only way to fix this correctly is to strip ALL of the paint off of the trim, jambs, doors, and shelves, before completely repainting everything. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE PROCESS!!!

If the contractor who originally painted over the trim had used the correct process, all of this could have been avoided.

When painting your trim, or hiring someone to do so, it’s important to make sure the process is followed correctly. Otherwise, you could end up with a very expensive mistake to fix!
