Our hearts are heavy today. Earlier this afternoon, we lost our Sweetie. She was enjoying her favorite activity, going for a walk, and unfortunately suffered a stroke and crossed the rainbow bridge.

Sweetie was full of love, silly quirks, and got along with everyone. She had a young heart in that little body of hers. She walked with a purpose and loved her foster mom to pieces.

She came to our rescue back in March, after her owner got moved to a senior facility and had no one to take her in. We are so thankful we had these months with her. Her foster, Melia, was so great with her. She always advocated for Sweetie and made sure all of her needs were met. She had lots of ups and downs with her health but her foster was right by her side through it all.

All of our fosters have big hearts and are so dedicated to providing the best home possible for our seniors. Because of their strength, selflessness, compassion, and patience, we are able to take in these senior dogs, just like sweetie. People like Melia make Golden Bark possible.

For those that don’t know, GBF pays for all cremation and euthanasia costs for our dogs. Our hospice fosters get to choose an urn and pawprint if they so please.

Little Minnie had her dental extractions today! She did such a good job 🤍

She lost her remaining 5 teeth, but we’re sure she’ll feel a ton better once she fully heals. She’s cozied up in some blankets and resting.

We’ve already spent $854.86 on her vet care since we took her in last week. She’s worth every penny. All of the dogs we take in are!

Celebrated by hosting yoga with Senior dogs thanks to Monaco SLC

Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday! The dogs loved all the attention, and we hope you truly enjoyed yourself!

We appreciate the Monaco for hosting us in their beautiful hotel and wanting to collaborate with our rescue. They are a dog-friendly hotel in downtown SLC!

Special shout out to our yoga instructor Amanda, who is also our beloved books volunteer! We appreciate your many talents 🤍

We hope you all get an opportunity to celebrate National Dog Day with your beloved dogs!

Our little Minnie had her first vet appointment yesterday!

She did not like being poked! She even stress-p**ped on one of the techs! But we did find out a lot about her.

The remaining teeth she has left are awful and will be taken out. She managed to p*e three times during our visit, and we patiently waited for the bloodwork to tell us why. As suspected, she has diabetes. We put a sensor on her and have started her on two units of insulin twice daily. We also ordered her special diabetic food. As is typical in many of our dogs, she has cataracts and chronic dry eye in her right eye. She also can’t see much out of the left and doesn’t seem to be able to hear well.

We’re so happy to learn more about her and how best to care for her. She’s adjusting so well and doesn’t seem to mind dogs or rabbits. She eats like a champ and naps like a queen!

She even attended our senior visit yesterday and p*ed on our friend Noelle from The Auberage. Yay for two happy accidents in one day 😭😂

We have multiple shifts available from set up to take down. All volunteers will get an exclusive gala t-shirt and free entry to the event. Introducing the newest golden girl, Minnie!

Minnie was found as a stray, and unfortunately, her people never came looking for her. The shelter verified her age through her microchip, and this young lady is 16! She is officially the second oldest dog in our rescue, right behind Kitty (19).

Minnie is likely deaf and blind. Her eyes are in rough shape. On the drive home, she p**ped and tried to eat it. So she’s got a few things going on. She has her first vet visit tomorrow morning and will go to her foster home in a few days.

She got a nice bath and nail trim and is now decompressing in her own space.

We’ll never understand how a dog that had a home and family for so long ends up at the shelter. But we promise to take the best care of her and show her nothing but love for the rest of her days. We think this young lady will likely be hospice; we will keep you all updated on her journey.

Kitty is doing so much better since her vestibular episode she had last month! She’s back to her normal self. Eating and barking like a champ!

She even had her first solid p**p in a few weeks! Woot woot 🤍

We all love her and we’re so happy she bounced back to her sassy self 🤍

Welcome, Blaze to GBF!

Blaze came from Brigham City Animal shelter. Where the amazing volunteers raised $1,000 so we could take him into our rescue. That will help us pay for his neuter, further Cushing’s tests, dental cleaning and address other health concerns.

I was able to spend the evening with him before he went off to his foster home in Idaho. He’s a nice old man. Loves love and just wants a cozy place to hang out.

Our 3rd Annual Fundraising Gala is coming up! It's our biggest fundraiser of the year and in my opinion, the most fun!

We are just 44 days away from coming together, and I need your help to ensure its success. We pay for our gala through sponsorships. We were over halfway to our goal but had to increase our budget due to some price changes with vendors (sad). I've added more silver sponsorships and am still looking to fill the remaining spots. As a reminder, The Golden Bark Foundation is a registered 501(c)3. Donations are tax-deductible!

Meet our Foster: Melia!

We love and appreciate Melia's dedication to our foster dogs. She's a wonderful addition to our GBF family. We are so thankful for her continued love and support to our dogs and mission!
