Proudly Wood
I make Wooden flags, barn doors and home decor.
The biggest doors I have ever made. Each door is 32 & 1/2 square feet covering a laundry and water heater closet.
This is door one of two. I will share pictures of the entire project once it is finished.
My latest creation is made entirely of poplar finished with and a mixture of weathered and carbon grey on top of antique white colored stain.
The neighborhood I grew up in, Curragh Downs in Fair Oaks, started development in the 1970s. The original land owner had a barn that was located on top of a hill down near the end of Curragh Downs Drive. That barn was demolished last year and these are the doors and windows. It feels odd to take something that is already old, clean it up and then make it look old again. I was not particularity thrilled with the way it turned out when I finished so I just let it sit in my house for a week and over thise seven days I ended up falling in love with it. Weird how that works out. Three more to go.
This is a bench that my Mom has had for about 30 years. It had seen better days after a decade in the sun. So for Mother’s Day this year, I brought it back to life.
I suppose it ought to be shown off in all its- “ooooooh, shimmer shimmer shimmer shimmer shimmer”
When I first started making these flags I remember scrolling through images of all the country flags of the world. I specificall remember seeing the flag of Wales and thinking, if I could pull that flag off, I could make just about any flag in the world.
Fast forward. Less than a month and I find myself selling a dishwasher to someone who was not only born in Wales but has a family tree that includes a Princess Diana. She saw my thin blue line flag and asked me to make her this one.
The dragon is outlined with a black oil based paint while farmhouse red woodstain gives it the color. I used white and green chalk paint from This Treasured Home in Fair
Oaks. If I am ever looking to work with sandable paint, this stuff is my go to.
Thin blue line and traditional American Flags with battery operated LED lights.
