“Desert Land” behind me is SOLD and I am excited for the new owner even though I will miss it.
I’m taking it easy today, no creating just laying around cleaning up the house and organizing.

What do you think of the new yarn shelf?
I had so much fun taking this awesome dumpster find and refurbishing it into my new shelf!
I really wanted to keep the door but it was in pretty terrible condition and I don’t have the tools/skills to fix something like that.
But I added new k***s and painted it all a beautiful terra-cotta color. I like the pop of color it brings to my space. Sadly my new studio area a.k.a my bedroom doesn’t get great lighting so I’m hoping this will inspire me to work more from my studio space.

Working on a 3 X 3 foot tapestry. Progress is slow lately.
Luna is down to one nap a day and they are only lasting 1-1.5 hours so I am really having to get creative to find time to work. My goal is to be able to work a little more while she is awake.
I also need to add some plants to my work space, it’s far too bare!!

09/17/2020

What’s up!
Poppin in today to say hello! There are quite a few new faces following my feed and I feel so dang honored that you allow my work to be apart of your life and inspiration.
I am a passionate creator always working to push myself but still be mindful of self care. I am not usually on here too much during the weekends because my family is making a point to spend time away from the screens and out in nature.
Fiber art is my medium of choice and my main tool is a punch needle but I loving mixing all different techniques to achieve the final tapestries.
Do you have a favorite thing about my feed? Let me know. I do my best to do what I love and not let others guide my choices (my whole family can probably painfully attest to that) but I love knowing what inspires and uplifts others because I love bringing joy and life to people I meet.

09/16/2020

The newest sketch for the large tapestry I will be working on. Probably for at least a month.
I plan to make this 3’ x 3’ . I love plants that aren’t normally considered “beautiful” like reeds and cotton or various weeds. So i plan on making a beautiful piece that really show cases that.
So excited. Thank you all the the love that you sent for yesterday’s tapestry I was blown away by the response!

In other news if you want to learn how I made this tapestry my course launches on Saturday 9/5! So many things happening! You want to win a chance to get the course for free, head over to yesterday’s photo on my feed and enter!
Once all this insanity is over I will be back in my studio starting a new collection that I am already drooling over. I will be focusing on lines and how you create beautiful expression through simple movements.

09/01/2020

How do you come up with your designs?
This is a question I am asked often! Many of them simply pop into my head as I am on a walk or driving. But there are also bits of nature that give me inspiration. This design was inspired by ivy I saw growing on a brick wall. It was changing colors from green to orange to red and I couldn’t help myself to translate that into a design. It was just too beautiful!
In my online course that launches Saturday I will teach you how to translate inspiration you find in the world around you into a design for a punch needle creation. I can’t wait to share this with you all 🥰

Timeline photos 08/31/2020

Want to learn how I create my tapestries?
Guess what my course launches on Saturday September 5th!!!
I have had so many amazing questions all about my process. So I decided to embark into the unknown and create an online course.
This course is the culmination of all that I have learned thus far.
I will take you into the mind of Laura as we walk around the city and find inspiration.
We then translate that inspiration into our vision.
Choose yarns and textures together to express that vision.
Cover the very basics of punch needle, the various beginner punches that give you the versatility to create a beautiful tapestry.
Then the tools and techniques I use to finish and hang the tapestries I make.
I can’t wait to see what you create and hear your feedback! Thank you all for the amazing questions that inspired me to make this happen 💃🏼
Also huge shoutout to the amazing team that made this possible .rubio without them I could be crying in a corner with no idea how to make my vision a reality.

These past few months have been a roller coaster of emotions.
Some days I am questioning if I am doing what I should be doing. Other days I am just blissful because I feel so lucky to be creating every single day.
This is one of the blissful days. One of the ways I stay in a more positive mindset is to integrate camping and family time into my life more.
I have been taking most of my weekends lately to spend quality time with my family in nature. I also listen to uplifting podcasts that help keep my mind from becoming overwhelmed by all that I see and hear happening in the world.
I know that if I want to help, love, and serve others who are struggling during this time. I have to take care of myself first. Otherwise I will be an empty shell.
Take care of yourself, love yourself, honor what you are feeling and acknowledge the chaos that is now, and set boundaries.

“Ocean Textures” will be a part of the art show on September 4th at . I love the tranquility of this tapestry. Just like the ocean brings me stillness this piece does too.

Timeline photos 08/11/2020

Well you guys, after months of rescheduling due to everything. The date for the art show is set in stone. September 4th with artist who makes some beautiful paintings!
Depending on the situation it might be virtual but our hope is that we can have a small physical opening, with masks and social distancing.
I really hope that it can be in person because getting up close to the tapestries is so much of the experience. In total there are 8 pieces and this beauty is one of them.

Being a mama is not easy, but I absolutely love it... like 98% of the time.
Luna is almost 15 months and it constantly blows me away how time has flown. She has entered into a phase of tantrums and expressing her feelings which has been challenging but is also has taught me a lot about myself.
She has also switched to one nap a day so my work life is changing yet again. I am having to figure out when and how to work to be as efficient as possible so I can use the free 1.5-2 hours I have and then if I get a spare moment I can fill that in with less vital work.
A question I keep asking myself is what life do I want to have? I want to be a business owner but my value resides in wanting to truly LIVE my life.
What does that look like? Loving my family and spending quality time with them. Working towards my goals and dreams. Cultivating meaningful friendships that last, and being present.
Right now it’s been hard for me to trust that my dreams will become a reality, (a lot of the hard work I have put into my business isn’t showing the results that I had wished for) but I am doing my best to stand firm knowing that if I put my best foot forward everyday, I will end up exactly where I am meant to be.
We need to remember to take life one moment at a time.

What’s up! I’m Laura, I have had a lot new faces come follow my page so I want to say hey.
A few things to know about me:
1️⃣I am a creator/maker working with fibers as my main medium. My normal tool of choice is a punch needle but I use all sorts of tools in addition to that to make my tapestries.
2️⃣My insta handle is . Why this? When I started using Instagram I was setting out on a personal journey of travel and exploration. Eudaimonia (eudaemonia) is a Greek word used to describe the highest level of living: self-actualisation or flourishing. My goal everyday is to be the best version of myself and to show up authentically true to me and what I want for my life. My feed isn’t just my art but also that journey too.
3️⃣ I’m a mama/wife and I want to share moments, good and bad. Instagram is a great platform but it is also so easy to only show what we want the world to see. It’s so important that those who see our lives know that it’s not perfection. There are ups and downs and challenges that come our way.
So that’s a little bit about me and my Instagram. I love questions and meeting new people so if you are creating a punch needle tapestry, are a mama, or simply just want to say hey, I love the dms and I do my best to reply the same day :) thanks for the love and support, you all blow me away with your kindness.

It is always so much fun to see what a beautiful space creates and it constantly brings a smile to my face when I see my tapestry hanging along with all her other amazing decor.
Gah I feel so lucky to be doing what I am doing. It can be exhausting and challenging at times. But seriously, I can’t believe I get to play with yarn all day!

This beauty is FINALLY done!
$450 “Reflection” includes shipping costs.
I began this boho geometric piece months ago. I put it on the back burner because of how time consuming and intricate portions of it was. Not to mention I had back to back commissions for a while. Today I finally said, “I’m finishing this!”
Guess what, I did. I feel a weight off my shoulders because if tapestries could speak this lovely one I swear kept whispering to me to finish working on it.
Onward to new projects. Have questions about this piece? Shoot me a dm! I will be posting it on the website today or tomorrow. However if you want to claim it before then let me know!

What are your biggest struggles when creating with punch needle?
A few I have heard are:
1️⃣ the edges of the hoop.
-I find that when you work along the edges of your hoop if you make the stitched closer together it will help build the necessary tension to keep them in place. Also, make two lines next to each other rather than just one before you begin filling in.
2️⃣The yarn wont punch.
-When this happens there are a few things you want to look at but I think the major thing is choosing the correct size yarn for the size needle you are using!
3️⃣Stitches coming out.
-You make have made your stitches too far apart. Make sure you are not making huge jumps beaten stitches. Also do your best to implement a bricking technique to provide the best structure to your punch needle piece.
Let me know in the comments issues you have come across and I am happy to offer my advice!

Timeline photos 07/21/2020

“We are living in a culture entirely hypnotized by the illusion of time, in which the so-called present moment is felt as nothing but an infinitesimal hairline between an all-powerfully causative past and an absorbingly important future. We have no present. Our consciousness is almost completely preoccupied with memory and expectation. We do not realize that there never was, is, nor will be any other experience than present experience.” Alan Watts
Punch needle is meditative to me. I get into the zone and I loose track of time and I am in this present moment.
I realized recently how out of touch with the present I have been. I have quieted myself and my body was screaming for me to speak up instead of holding it inside.
Sometimes finding the words and understanding your feelings is hard. I have felt pressure to be at a certain place in the future, when all I have control over is this present moment.
I am going to do my best to be more mindful. I hope that during these crazy times you do the same. Do what you can right now, show up in this moment and the future will take care of itself.
