2024 Goals: Incorporate More Seafood into Your Diet
Adding seafood to your meals introduces essential omega-3 fatty acids, promoting heart health and potentially reducing the risk of cognitive decline.
We purchase our seafood from fisheries that are working in an environmentally responsible manner to maintain healthy species populations and habitats. All of the seafood we sell meets the standards for sustainability set by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program.
As you kickstart your New Year's resolutions, know that we're here by your side! If you're looking to improve your health in the New Year, consider exploring new herbs and spices in your home cooking.
Many herbs and spices are packed with antioxidants and essential nutrients that offer numerous health benefits. For instance, ingredients like turmeric contain anti-inflammatory properties, common cooking herbs like thyme, rosemary and sage have powerful antiviral properties and garlic and ginger can help support immune function.
We have over 200 herbs and spices for all your culinary, baking and wellness needs- alphabetized from Agar Agar to Xanthan Gum. You’ll find jars of ashwagandha, curry powder, peppercorns, hops flowers, lavender and much more.

🥝🍋 Ruthanne Jahoda created Shared Abundance Organic Farm (.abundance) in 1997 in Auburn as a place of healing. She discovered an inseparable relationship between the vitality of the soil, the energy of the plants and the taste and fragrance of the fresh ripe food. We just got our first delivery of the season of Ruthanne’s delicious kiwis and Meyer lemons and they’re on sale through December 19.
One of the 7 Cooperative Principles that all co-ops adhere to is “Concern for Community”. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the number of people experiencing food insecurity has gone up exponentially.
Over the past year, our Outreach Coordinator, Lori Friedli has been focusing on collecting our edible food waste and donating it to organizations that serve people in need. Since she’s taken on this responsibility, she has been able to spot opportunities for donation that would have otherwise been thrown away.
In fiscal 2022, we donated over $59,000 worth of food to organizations like Waking The Village which serves unhoused LGBTQ+ youth, our neighbors at River City Food Bank and local free fridges.
Read more about our food donation efforts in our latest blog post at the link in our bio or www.sac.coop/blog.
