Mental health can sometimes, if not often, feel very isolating and lonely. It takes courage and strength to reach out, but sometimes even the smallest connection can help lift heavy clouds of fog and depression. Engaging and connecting with others makes us feel seen and less alone; it makes the difficult moments easier to bear as there is someone else there - even if it is just a listening ear :)
The third part of our emotion series focuses on envy. Envy arises when we compare ourselves to others and perceive that they have something we want but do not have and might never achieve. Here's a shortened list of how envy can be experienced 📋
Daily reminder to allow yourself to feel pride when taking steps to accomplish your goals.
Many people don’t realize the impact of community-level trauma, especially in minority groups. This trauma stems from historical oppression and systemic discrimination, leading to deep-rooted pain that affects entire communities. Effective healing requires culturally sensitive approaches that acknowledge these unique, individual experiences. This includes traditional healing practices like talking circles, community-led support groups, and therapy with culturally competent professionals as a start to tackle those deep and lasting effects of this trauma as a community and heal together 🌱🌸
Join Trauma Speaks as a volunteer mental health professional! We're looking for passionate individuals to join our amazing team and make a real difference in the community. Help us provide support and healing to those who need it most 💙
Happy friendship day! Tag that friend who embodies the true spirit of friendship for you
The real issue isn’t a lack of interest—it's a lack of resources and access to the right mental health care. Many BIPOC communities, especially newer generations of the community, are eager to engage with mental wellness but face significant barriers, including limited access to culturally competent care and support services. Let’s focus on creating equitable access to mental health resources for all.
Daily reminder: On difficult days, even allowing yourself grace and taking tiny steps is progress. It is hard to silence the bully voice in your head that wants to put you down, but this is where grace, softness and kindness come in, showing us that progress is built one small, loving step at a time.
Another misconception is that mental health is a taboo topic in all BIPOC cultures and communities. The reality is, many cultures within the BIPOC community have rich traditions of discussing and addressing mental health. From indigenous healing practices to community support groups, these cultures are paving the way for holistic approaches to mental wellness. By honouring and learning from these diverse practices and integrating them into traditional, well-known methods, we can break this stigma together 🌍❤️
Are you part of the BIPOC community? We want to hear from you! Share your stories and experiences in the comments.
Taking care of your mental health can feel like such an overwhelming task, which is why it is important to take it one tiny step at a time. Here is the first of many tips to help you take care of your mental health.
Spending time on your own can feel daunting and scary, but when it is done with the intention of kindness, grace and love, it gets easier. Maybe do a little pondering or meditation on things that bring you joy - is it drinking tea; is it going to an art exhibition; is it walks - Now, set a time to enjoy this lovely activity on a date with yourself.
Think speaking the same language means cultural competence in therapy? Think again!
True cultural competence means understanding and valuing diverse backgrounds beyond just language 🌍
💡Did you know? Enhancing cultural awareness leads to better mental health outcomes and happier patients.
Daily reminder to notice beauty in the small things around us - whether that is a stranger smiling at their phone; a stray kitten cuddling next to your leg; or simply the leaf and the sunlight dancing.
As part of our emotion series, this week we're focusing on disgust. Disgust is one of the seven universal emotions and arises due to feelings of aversion towards something offensive and is perceived through our five senses. Here's a shortened list of how disgust can be experienced.

Inspiration can sometimes feel very elusive.
