🥩🐟🥛 DCM & GRAIN-FREE

In my experience, dogs and cats do best on a high meat diet. Especially when we speak about cases of heart disease, meat is an invaluable source of many nutrients, but taurine is especially important for the heart. Taurine is absent in cereal grains.

They can’t put more than about 20% meat into kibble formulation, it won’t go through the manufacturing process. My diets are 70-85% meat/bone/organ for dogs and 90-95% meat/bone/organ for cats.
For dogs: https://drjudymorgan.com/products/yin-yang-nutrition-for-dogs-maximizing-health-with-whole-foods-not-drugs?_pos=1&_sid=fc0e96301&_ss=r
For cats: https://drjudymorgan.com/blogs/recipes/how-to-make-cat-food

The drastic difference in meat content between my diets and kibble is one reason why I don’t have any kibble recommendations for you. The process involves high heat, subpar ingredients, and way too many carbohydrates. If you feed kibble, you can top it with raw meat from the grocery store (chicken, pork, beef, sardines, eggs, etc) to boost the nutrition.

Whether your breed is predisposed to DCM or not, a species appropriate, high meat, high moisture diet will serve your cat or dog best.

B vitamins help us stay healthy, sharp, energetic, balanced, and clean (they assist in the detoxification process). In addition to boosting our mood and supporting overall wellness, they play also play a significant role in producing and metabolizing hormones and neurotransmitters.

Niacin (B3), for example, plays a role metabolizing estrogen and detoxification in addition to promoting the release of growth hormones. Pyridoxine (B6) binds to estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone helping to detoxify excess amounts in the body.

Here is a checklist that covers the various essential B vitamins and what symptoms you may experiencing if you're deficient in any of them. If you want to learn about the other B vitamins and their role in hormone, and overall, wellness, click the link below.

🙌🏼 Movement is essential to life. Our nervous systems need movement to be able to process our environment and allow our bodies to react to it. Our brains communicate with the rest of our body through the spinal cord. Our spinal cord is encased within our spines, which allow us to move our bodies. Thus, relaying back information from the outside world to our brains. Movement is key. 🔑

OCCIPITAL NEURALGIA HEADACHES

Since the O-A joint surrounds and attaches to the brain stem, which controls all basic body functions (including breathing and heartbeat), poor alignment may have widespread consequences. For example, if the O-A joint on one side develops a restriction, the crooked occiput may set off local neurological reflexes that increase muscle tension in the suboccipitals, and which may compress and irritate the greater occipital nerve.

Clients presenting with occipital neuralgia commonly complain of pain referring up the back of the head and around the side, sometimes reaching into the orbital region.

Following the client history intake and palpation of suboccipital hypertonicity, the MAT therapist must try and determine the origin of the suspected occipital neuralgia headache. Ask yourself this question first: Is the unlevel O-A joint and accompanying suboccipital spasm the result of awkward head and neck positioning, as in the case of the plumber under the sink, or could there be compensations… click here to read more and vide a Myoskeletal Technique video: https://mailchi.mp/freedomfrompain/occipital-neuralgia-headaches159854

Chiropractic & spinal manipulative therapies along with vagal nerve stimulation may be regarded as treatment options for depression. They may activate the parasympathetic system to counterbalance the activity of the sympathetic system. Vagal parasympathetic stimulation is also considered an effective therapy for major depression as it releases neurotrophins essential for anti-depressive therapies, including brain-derived neurotrophic factor and nerve growth factor.

Timeline photos 06/26/2022

Damage to nerve layers may lead to AXONAL DEGENERATION.

Compression, nerve entrapment, and eventual loss of blood supply lead to characteristic changes in the nerve itself. The length of time a tissue can survive oxygen deprivation varies, but all ischemic tissue will eventually become necrotic under such circumstances.

The timeline generally begins with subperineurial EDEMA, followed by THICKENING of the perineurium, STIFFENING of the epineurium, THINNING of the peripheral myelin sheath, and — as the nerve breaks down — axonal degeneration.

Restoration of blood and oxygen supply via massage may minimizes damage, but it depends on the TYPE of structure causing the compression and the DEGREE of load on the nerve.

Immediate treatment should include:
🔺Training modifications
🔺 Graded exposure stretching of injured connective tissues
🔺 Stabilization of weakened areas

For long-term improvement, BIOMECHANICAL ALIGNMENT problems will need to be addressed.

🌿🐞🌿 Yarrow is our Herb of the Week! 🌿🐞🌿

For thousands of years, yarrow has been used to heal wounds and stop bleeding. It has been called by many names over the centuries, including the descriptives spearwort, staunchweed, and woundwort. Yarrow offers a complete package that is well suited for healing injuries.
🌿
As a styptic
🐞
When used as a topical poultice, both fresh and dried, yarrow can encourage blood to coagulate, helping to stop bleeding. This is a helpful tip for hikers who may be far from medical care. I’ve seen it work in some dramatic circumstances. Using yarrow to stop bleeding can be as simple as macerating the leaves and applying them to the area. It’s famous for stopping nosebleeds.
🌿
As an antimicrobial
🐞
Yarrow is broadly antimicrobial and antiseptic. When used on a wound it can help keep it clear of infection or it can be used to address signs of infection such as heat, redness, or yellow discharge.
🌿
Yarrow was famously used on Roman battlefields and has long been thought of as a soldier’s herb.
🐞
In the 1st Century, Dioscorides recommended to “pound the leaves and put them on a fresh wound to close and heal the wound, clear it from heat and inflammation and congeal the blood.”
🌿
Recent studies have further confirmed yarrow’s gifts for healing wounds. One study showed that oil infused with yarrow was effective in reducing inflammation on the skin. Another study demonstrated that yarrow, in combination with St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum), increased the healing of episiotomy wounds.

Massage therapy can increase the release of serotonin and melatonin, which are hormones that allow the body to reset its circadian cycle. Serotonin is needed for the body to produce melatonin that induces sleep.
