WHAT IS A DOULA?

People who have heard of the word doula tend to believe that we deliver or help deliver babies like that of a midwife. Midwives are medical professionals who have intense schooling to be where they are.

We as Birth Doulas are trained and certified to focus on being there for you during your pregnancy, as well as, you and your birth support team through your birth.

As a Postpartum Doula, we are trained and certified to help you through those first critical weeks of adjusting to

A. Being a new parent if it’s your first go round

Or

B. A new little person being around while navigating having other little people around if this isn’t your first go round

Giving you a chance to rest while having someone there who’s been around your entire pregnancy to care for baby.

The Helping Us Grow (HUG) program is looking for individuals who are interested in being trained to become practicing Doulas in our community. Individuals should live in the Greater Lansing area, identify as Black or African American, and be interested in working with pregnant and parenting individuals.

I support those of all ages, races, sexual orientation, etc. I also take donations to cover the costs of those who are unable to pay for doula services but desire a doula 💗
