The Branch 9 MDA Bowl-A-Thon was a huge success. It was so great to see that we had a higher turnout than the previous year. Also we had the privilege of having two MDA Ambassadors and their families join us for the night of bowling. Abby and Jordan have previously attended this event and were so excited to be back again this year.

Hello brothers and sisters!
Women since the age of time have β€œ tumbled out of bed, stumbled to the kitchen and poured ourself a cup of ambition”. If you don’t know the lyrics I just quoted it is from β€œ 9 to 5” by Dolly Parton. This song was written during one of the biggest labor victories for women. During 1972 women had enough of the harassment and mistreatment on the job many of which were secretary jobs. This movement propelled the labor movement into what it is today. After multiple attempts at dismissing their efforts across the country. Employers had no choice but to recognize the union. But we cannot overlook some of the hurdles women had to jump over just to get support for unionizing. The documentary β€œ 9 to 5: The story of a movement” highlights many of these challenges the women faced trying to organize. Even with the Equal Pay Act of 1963 women were still underpaid compared to men. By standing in solidarity across the country they gained many benefits and more importantly dignity and respect in the office. No more β€œ coffee runs”, doing errands for the boss and a full job description when applying for a job. Women have always played an important role in unions and in society. We are fortunate here in Minnesota to have powerful women supporting our causes in the U.S capital. Senator Amy klobuchar and Tina Smith, Representative Angie Craig and Illhan Omar have been vocal supporters of our union and of the postal service. With your support through the Letter Carrier Political Fund we can support these women who have supported us. I want to thank the powerful women of branch 9 this month for contributing and helping our union stay strong. All it takes is five dollars a pay period to help our union advance our agenda.
