Whitehouse Roundtable_7.2.2024.mp4

Back in March, a group of government leaders and key stakeholders convened for a roundtable at the White House focusing on lowering healthcare costs and bringing transparency to prescription drug middlemen (i.e., Pharmacy Benefit Managers, or PBMs). Some highlights from the discussion include:

12:20 - Chairwoman of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Lina Khan, whose office has begun blazing the trail for governmental accountability of PBMs’ anticompetitive practices

17:15 - Governor of Kentucky Andy Beshear, who previously investigated PBMs as the state’s Attorney General and whose administration has since successfully saved his state hundreds of millions of dollars by thoughtfully selecting a single PBM to serve their Medicaid program and holding them accountable

24:00 - Personal stories from community pharmacists like the ones you work with at our store

35:15 - Mark Cuban and Cost Plus Drugs Company co-founder Alex Oshmyansky discuss how their growing self-pay pharmacy company (similar in function to our own Cost Plus program at SPCD) is disrupting the industry and saving patients money through transparent and fair pricing. Additionally, Mr. Cuban discusses his own experience as a business owner who realized that he was grossly overpaying for his and his employees’ prescription drug costs by choosing to work with a PBM.

Pharmacy Closures Map.mp4
Behold: the birth of the #PharmacyDesert The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy recently published their dynamic map of US pharmacy closures from January 2014 to the present. Unfortunately, our great state of Minnesota has experienced the most closures of any state in the country 😔 While checking out these maps, keep in mind that once a local pharmacy—whether chain or indie—closes, there is almost zero chance of it ever reopening in the current climate. Every community-based pharmacy that shutters its doors is one more neighborhood (or entire city or county) without access to lifesaving medicines and counseling from a pharmacist, vaccinations, and more. A similar geographic analysis undertaken by the Associated Press shows how these areas are more likely to serve as home to Black, Latino, and rural communities. · · · · · To see the map in action, visit: https://buff.ly/3RJxUd8 To check out the AP article and map, visit: https://buff.ly/45a9jDz #CLOSED #CommunityAction #CommunityPharmacy #CrushThePBMarchy #ForProfitHealthcare #ForProfitPharmacyCare #GetEducated #GetLOUD #IndependentPharmacy #IndiePharmacy #Insurance #InsuranceReform #LegislativeAction #LongLiveIndiePharmacy #MapItOut #MNotProud #PatientsB4Profits #PayYourProviders #PBMafia #Pharmacide #PharmacyIsEssentialHealthcare #PharmacyMatters #PharmacyDesertsKill #Pharmageddon #ProvidersBeforeProfit #ShopLocal #SpeakTruthToPower #SupportPatientAccess #TheMoreYouKnow

Taking advantage video post_6.11.2024.mp4
📢 Corporate health insurers are taking advantage of America’s seniors! 📢 Last week Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP)—the only national physician organization in the US dedicated exclusively to implementing a single-payer national health program—hosted a webinar entitled “Taking Advantage: How corporate health insurers harm America’s seniors.” This FREE webinar focused on the many ways that corporate health insurers harm seniors and people with disabilities—including through Medicare Advantage—and how YOU can fight back. The program highlighted PNHP’s recently published “Taking Advantage” report and include input from industry experts, special guest U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D—MA), and personal stories from patients and care providers about how they’ve been harmed by the Medicare system. • • • • • Watch the free webinar on our YouTube channel (https://buff.ly/45lf2GO) and learn more by reading PNHP’s “Taking Advantage” report (https://buff.ly/4ch4V86)! #CareOverCost #CentersforMedicareandMedicaid #CMS #ContactYourCongressperson #CourageInNarratives #CrushThePBMarchy #Federal #ForProfitHealthcare #ForProfitPharmacyCare #GetEducated #GetLOUD #InsuranceReform #LegislativeAction #PBM #PBMabuse #PBMafia #Pharmacide #TheFutureIsMedicareForAll #TheFutureIsNationalHealthcare

NYT PA Video_5.3.2024.mp4
Prior Authorizations (we call them “PAs” for short) were originally intended to prevent care providers from over- or inappropriately prescribing expensive medical treatments and, therefore, used to be an occasional occurrence for patients and their providers. Nowadays, insurance companies (and, in the pharmacy world, the Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) that process prescription claims on their behalf) have weaponized them in order to prevent or delay paying for patients’ care (evident in the fact that many denied PAs that are appealed by care providers end up being approved). Sometimes, the consequences are dire: blindness, paralysis, and even death. The @NYTopinionteam talked to 50 doctors and patients about their often tragic experiences with PAs—a problem we and our patients also deal with daily at our own pharmacy. Time is running out to contact your MN legislators before the end of the state legislative session! Today is one of the last days to make an impact before final votes are held on crucial pharmacy-related legislation in the coming week. The easiest way to send a message? 1. Head to our “State Initiatives” page (https://buff.ly/3US434a) or use the links below to access a free grassroots advocacy tool (there’s one for patients and one for healthcare providers). 2. Enter your name and address. The tool will automatically address your message to your MN legislative reps. If you’re short on time, just click “submit” and you’re all done! If you have an extra minute or two, we STRONGLY RECOMMEND adding a personal story or reasons why maintaining access to community-based pharmacy and the services we offer matters specifically to you or your loved ones. Legislators want to know how proposed legislation would impact their constituents, so personal stories have a huge impact on getting them to recognize the issue as something that matters to the community they represent. A great place to add this would be right after the last line of the pre-written message, “These bipartisan bills will help strengthen access to affordable, convenient pharmacy care for your constituents and families like mine.” Once you’ve edited the message to your liking, hit submit and send it off! EXTRA CREDIT: Share the link for our site or the grassroots tool with friends, family, and neighbors who vote in MN, and encourage them to send messages of their own! ➡️ Advocacy tool for PATIENTS: https://buff.ly/4abxwKF ➡️ Advocacy tool for PROVIDERS: https://buff.ly/3WC56q5 #CommunityAction #LegislativeAction #LongLiveIndiePharmacy #MNLegislature #MNProud #PayersBeforeProfit #PayYourProviders #PBMabuse #PBMafia #PharmacyMatters #Pharmageddon #ProvidersBeforeProfit #SpeakTruthToPower #TheMoreYouKnow #VOTE #WhyNotUs
