Tank Raised
Tank raised is all about almost anything in an aquarium/tank. From fish to reptiles to plants
Begonia Montaniformis is such a slow grower đ©, but so worth it đ€€đ. It will be getting a repot and hopefully it wonât stress too much on us. Still has yet to flower for us, but we are just hoping it does at some point soon đ€.
Begonia hybrid Araneumoides x Koksunii has gotten massive đ±. Tentatively named âVelvet Mountainsâ this has the best features of both parents. Definitely a vigorous grower, and small stature make it really a nice plant so far.
Begonia hybrid Dracopelta x U679 getting a new home to grow out in. It was growing against the top of the tub, itâs getting big. Here are several of the plants we are still debating on keeping and registering.
Begonia hybrid Amphioxus x Aketajawensis about to be separated finally, with the bigger ones getting their own pots now. We are really liking this one!
Begonia hybrid Amphioxus x Lichenora growing and looking good now. Soon to be registered! We have many propped and ready to go once registered. âBlushing Pixieâ is the name we have dubbed this one, and âDark fairyâ for the darker one.
Begonia hybrid Amphioxus x Ferox plants finally getting a new home after outgrowing their last one. These are all massive now, after this terrarium we wonât have anything tall enough for them đ . What do you think? Atleast 3yrs in the works đ.
A couple other seedlings from Koksunii x Ningming, but showing off some cool silver along with a little hairyness. Itâs kinda bumpy too. Which is cool, giving it a snowy mountain look to it.
Our amphioxus x Lichenora âBlushing Pixieâ is settling in its first terrarium and it seems to be very happy. It has some good upright climbing habit, making it a great wall climber. Almost ready to release a few of these guys đ€. After moving into our new place we will be registering this one đ.
Ferox âgreen formâ is taking over! It seems to be a little more vigorous of a grower compared normal Ferox. We are gonna have to trim it back as it is now covering a few other species with its giant leaves and rhizome. We really like the light green bullae, itâs a nice change from the normal dark bullae other species have.
Itâs been awhile since an update on these guys đ . After moving we will finally be able to fully document and register some of our Amphioxus x Ferox hybrids. We canât wait to release âRed Goosebumpsâ! Here is their tank and theyâre all growing like crazy, really showing how different they can be.
We finally have male flowers open on our Amphioxus x U679! Now to get it all documented finalized and pics taken, then we will be registering this one after coming up with a name! This is a nice dwarf cane like hybrid with stunning leaves! It stays nice and small, being around 12-14 inches we are sure it would still grow taller if you let it. It will be perfect for terrariums to add color.
Canât wait to release this one! What do you think?
Hereâs another of the seedlings flowering, but this one is only producing (unsuccessfully) male flower clusters. They donât seem to open, which may be an indicator of being a hybrid. But the leaves on it look super nice! This is one we may keep working on even tho the male flower issue. The female flowers tho are huge and really nice when they show up.
Should hopefully be able to register them soon.
Itâs really cool to see how hybrid flowers turn out! Even among the same batch of seedlings the flowers are slightly different . This one has huge tepals compared to the rest so far. This is one of the Dracopelta x U679, not sure if we will keep this one, but the flowers are pretty cool. Some having 4 tepals while others having 3. Shows how unstable some hybrids can be when mixing genetics.
Our Amphioxus x U679 is finally about to flower! That just makes it one step closer to registering. Now for the hard part of measuring everything and getting it all documented. The real Lu hard part is figuring out a name of course đ.
It has a good growth habit of both parents, smaller stature thanks to Amphioxus.
Our hybrid Amphioxus x aketajawensis âsilverâ seedlings have some good variance in them. Really liking all of them and will be separating them soon. We think these will be hard to choose 3 to register! A couple have mint silver green leaves, some are vibrant metallic pink/red, a really cool green with red overtones. This is a really cool batch we canât wait to register.
After growing Begonia Ferox âgreen formâ we have noticed another way to tell the difference between Ferox and Melanobullata. Ferox has much fuzzier leaf margins and trichs growing on their veins as well. As where Melanobullata isnât nearly as fuzzy in either regard, but it does keep its bullae trichs as where Ferox loses theirs. Ferox âgreen formâ also seems to keep its hairs more the itâs regular form which is cool as well.
The things you notice and find interesting when maintaining the terrariums lol.
Begonia Dongoranensis has a very interesting look no matter what time of day it is. Here you can see early in the day vs almost night time comparison and how it almost looks variegated. Really cool to see it change like that. Some begonia start the day out with blue hues and then lose them as the sun is at full peak in the day. It also has some flowers. Begonia are so interesting!
Begonia Pteridiformis is flowering! Theyâre like fireworks at the end of a trail exploding with pink flowers at the top, itâs so cool. It is a sign itâs about to go into dormancy unfortunately thođ©. We donât keep many tuberous species around, but this one was a must!

One of our hybrid bins is looking nice tonight so we had to take some pics. Most of them are flowering which is nice and a little overgrowing going on but the contrast of leaves was a must share. Canât wait to be able to register some of these guys soon, hopefully. Still have to come up with names, but names are tough tho đ«đ.
These are our current most blue plants right now and they donât disappoint! Begonia Burkillii âdark formâ is growing slowly but really showing off. Selaginella Willdenowii is always showing those nice blues to catch the eye. Begonia Metachroa really looks nice when growth as a small bush/bunch. Last but not least is selaginella Uncinatac currently showing the light blues cause itâs getting higher light then normal. These are all great terrarium plants and definitely recommend them for how they offer contrast to the plants around them.
We had a photo shoot with the isopods today cause our daughter got some for her bday and she couldnât have been happier! These are all of ours together minus just a couple cause photo limitations. These guys are sooo cool! She couldnât believe how many she got today, she was excited to build new habitats for them. Needless to say, good presents đ.
We use these guys in our terrariums as cleanup crew and to add some activity to the terrariums. So many different kinds and behaviors theyâre all cool to watch.
Here we have: Gestroi, Montenegro, Pak Chong, Papaya, Sh*to Utsuri, Haasi âhigh yellowâ, âPenny backsâ, Chocolate Zebra, Panda King, Perracae.
Offering the last of our Begonia Koksunii and Araneumoides seeds before we pack stuff away.
If interested theyâre $30 for 25+ seeds of Araneumoides and $30 for 30+ seeds of Koksunii, plus shipping ($7 U.S. and $15 international).
Any questions donât hesitate to ask away!
Only in a couple weeks we will be joining , , for a plant sale at !
Come check it out if youâre in the area. We will have lots of rare and uncommon begonia along with other terrarium plants and supplies. Hope to see you there!
Our Dracopelta x U679 flowers finally opened! Really nice white and red female flowers to start, taking after U679 the males will prolly come later above the leaves. In this hybrid the U679 is dominant with its growth habit, leaf shape, and flowers. Only leaving the leaf texture from Dracopelta, which is cool to see what genetics are dominant!
We are propping and testing different environments for our hybrid Amphioxus x Lichenora. So far it is doing great in most conditions, but in lower humidity it does slow down a lot. Otherwise, this is turning out to be a hybrid with vigor thatâs easily pleased in most terrarium environments. We have one thatâs just starting flowering for the first time! We canât wait for them to open and see how they look. Soon we may be able to register these; it has been a long wait đ© đ.
A small photo shoot of some of our hybrids. The first is Araneumoides x rajah, one takes more after rajah with the red emergent leaf and hardening off a dark green but these have Araneumoides satin texture and glittery veins and the other has more of an Araneumoides look.
Second one is one of the Dracopelta x u679 hybrids finally flowering. Showing nice big leaves but short stature, this one seems to throw random variegated spots on the leaves, itâs more of a maroon color then the others.
The next 2 are Amphioxus x u679, showing both parents nicely. Theyâre dwarf canes with good vigorous growth, no flowers yet tho.
The last one is Amphioxus x aketajawensisâsilverâ and theyâre showing off a few different traits that is pretty cool. Some seem like dwarf shrub like or climbing rhizome with the leaves varying from mint to a nice pink and rose gold.
Definitely canât wait to register these! What do you think?
Is there such a thing as bullae overload? Or is there never enough? đ€đ€Łđ€·đ»ââïž.
Ferox normal and green form, melanobullata, Montaniformis, Nahangensis, Susaniae, Dracopelta are all just out of this world. When we move we definitely need to bring all these species and some others into one terrarium so they can all strut together.
đ
Just look at those spots on this Sp. Tawau! We were really happy to add this to the collection thanks to Maggie Hellis! Her plants always make us drool đ€€. This one doesnât look like it suffered at all during shipping or acclimating to its new home, seems to be really hardy so far.
Letting Dracopelta take over this corner and itâs doing a great job so far đ. It doesnât matter where this species is growing it always looks stunning! Can never have enough of this species. Maybe after moving we will make a terrarium of just bullae species đ€.
Begonia U683 bouncing back after almost dying in the mail. We were amazed at how this one was able to bounce back after almost entirely melting in the mail. Goes to show even a small piece can possibly save a species you may possibly lose. We canât wait for it to get bigger!
