Rep Hoa Nguyen
State Representative Hoa Nguyen, Oregon House District 48
Our Constituent Coffee was a huge success!
We are so grateful to for letting us use their space.
The Community showed up! We were so happy to see new faces along with some familiar faces.
We discussed our priority education policies, but most importantly, we listened to the community to hear what legislation is most important to them. We discussed the need for pedestrian and traffic safety in our district, as well as climate protections.
I am dedicated to our community and look forward to bringing resources into House District 48!
Thank you again to all who came.
Dr Adrien Bennings - The PCC President, Sage Learn - The Chief of Staff & Executive Director of College Relations, Colette Tipper - The College Relations Manager, and PCC Students came to see me at the Capitol to discuss a specific piece of legislation that would appropriate moneys from the General Fund to the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) for certain biennial expenses.
Advocacy like this is crucial for members of the Joint Ways and Means (JWM) on Education Committee so that we know what the priorities are for our community.
My office, alongside the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) Office of Tribal Affairs, is honoring the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) on May 5, 2023.
Indigenous women and girls continue to go missing and are murdered at alarming rates in Oregon and throughout Indian Country. The ongoing injustice of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) seeks to address the spectrum of violence and neglect toward women to impact Tribes and Tribal communities.
The intersection of genocide, colonization, romanticization of Native women and violence against women contributes to the high rates of domestic violence, sexual assault, forced sterilization, and trafficking. These crimes occur due to a long history of biased and inequitable government laws, policies, practices, and programs that create conditions exposing Indigenous women's vulnerability.
Today is Bike and Walk Day as part of the May challenge!! Send us photos and tag us in your posts of you and your family biking and walking to school today and all month long!
A few weeks ago I attended The No Place for Hate Youth Summit with students from Robert Gray Middle Schols and Ida B Wells high school and it was a huge success!
I have a personal connection with Robert Gray Middle School as I was a SUN Community School Director there in 2012. I remembered parents and students organizing the No Place for Hate group and I am proud to see it expand to what is now.
In partnership with the other keynote speakers Stella Keating, and .danielnguyen, we discussed mental health, cyberbullying, racial justice and more.
I will always show up for our students! Thank you for having me.
Pages were first associated with lawmaking bodies when they began appearing in royal courts.
The term "honorary page" is applied to our daily guest attendants because it recalls the honorable status and goals of pages in history.
Pages today have somewhat different duties. This web site will give you a preliminary introduction to our program.
As a page, we hope you will learn about the legislative process and your place in Oregon’s rich history. Have a good time!

I was honored to be visited by staff and constituents involved in the Behavioral Health Resource Network. Measure 110 meant nearly $94 million for Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington Counties.
Thanks to voters, Oregon is on a path to healing people, families and communities.
This new funding for free interventions and treatment, overdose prevention, housing, and employment services comes through the local providers in the Behavioral Health Resource Network.
HB 2005 passed on the Floor!
Right now guns are the #1 cause of the death of children ages 1-18 in the United States. It doesn't have to be like this. We all deserve to feel safe in our communities.
That's why as Democrats, we're responding with the Gun Violence Prevention bill (HB 2005). This will keep guns out of the wrong hands, help law enforcement do their jobs, make our communities safer, and respect responsible gun owners.
Thoughts and prayers can only go so far, and after what we saw in Tennessee, inaction is not an option. I’m proud to support this package and make Oregon a safer place.
Today we vote on the Reproductive Health & Access to Care (RHAC) Bill.
This is about protecting Oregonians’ basic rights and freedoms. Specifically, our right to make our own decisions about our own bodies without political interference.

Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) reopened the federal Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) Program on March 8, 2023. It provides funding for past-due mortgages and other housing expenses, as well as ongoing payment assistance, to a limited number of homeowners with low to moderate incomes.
OHCS also partners with Oregon Homeownership Centers, who have housing counselors on staff available to help low and moderate-income Oregonians with rental assistance, purchasing affordable housing, and other living resources.
A list of Housing Counselors by county is available at https://www.oregon.gov/ohcs/pages/talk-with-a-housing-counselor.aspx.

I will be giving testimony on House Bill 3383 at a public hearing today at 3:00pm in the Senate Education Committee. Thank you to our partners at Oregon School Employees Association for their support on this.
As a Classified Employee, this bill is personal for me. Every day, classified employees support quality education. We are the frontline workers that have relationships with students and understand what they are going through day to day. As such, we should have a voice on state education advisory boards and commissions to ensure Oregon public schools are safe and functional for the students we serve.
If you are a classified staff and would like to submit testimony, you may do so for 48 hours after the hearing begins, so until Saturday at 3:00pm. Click on my Link in Bio to watch the hearing and submit testimony.
Our children and communities deserve to live free from fear. School should be a place of learning and stability. That’s why I’m proud to support the Gun Violence Prevention bill (HB 2005). Learn more: tinyurl.com/SafetyFirstOregon

Following last week’s news that two Black lawmakers were expelled from the Tennessee House after they joined over 7,000 peaceful protestors in speaking out against gun violence, Oregon’s Legislative Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) Caucus released a statement:
“We cannot take what happened in Tennessee lightly, nor should we normalize these destructive actions. While we applaud the Nashville Metropolitan Council’s decision to reinstate Representative Justin Jones, the events of last week are a demonstration of the harm to democracy when we do not address our racist histories and allow racist institutions to persist. As elected leaders, we must reaffirm our commitment to defend and strengthen our democratic institutions by expanding the right to vote and removing barriers that impede Black and Brown Oregonians from running for office and representing their constituents.”
Rep. Khanh Pham read a statement on the House Floor and quoted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s letter from Birmingham, Alabama jail April 16, 1963, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

It is tax filing season, and taxes are due April 18. Did you know that Oregon has a “Taxpayer Bill of Rights?”
Your rights as an Oregon taxpayer are spelled out in ORS 305.860 - ORS 305.900, or a summary is available at https://www.oregon.gov/dor/Pages/taxpayer-bill-of-rights.aspx.
During the 2021 legislative session, the Legislature passed HB 3373 to create an independent Taxpayer Advocate within the Oregon Department of Revenue (DOR) to protect these rights.
If you think you are not being treated fairly, or if you have a problem or complaint, the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate at DOR is up and running and is available to help. Please contact the Taxpayer Advocate at 503-945-8700, [email protected], or visit www.oregon.gov/dor/Pages/Taxpayer-Advocate.aspx.
Just in time to celebrate National Walking Day, HB 3014, The School Transportation Options Bill, passed unanimously out of the House Education Committee!
We are one step closer to ensuring schools can use transportation funding for Walking School Bus Coordinators, Crossing Guards, and other active transportation options.
Thank you for your partnership and advocacy, and , , , , , and other transportation enthusiasts.
I'm very proud to champion this bill to uplift the voices of Pacific Islander students and parents.
Oregon’s Pacific Islander students are experiencing unacceptable disparities in student success, including above average suspension/expulsion rates and decreasing attendance to staggering drop out rates.
The Pacific Islander Student Success Plan, HB 3144, is a community-led effort to develop culturally responsive, targeted interventions to address this academic opportunity gap.
This bill is not only a critical investment in education, but an acknowledgment in state statute that we see these students and recognize the assets they bring into our classrooms and communities.
Check out our Link in Bio to learn more about this crucial legislation.
I will be carrying two bills on the floor today. You can watch LIVE at the Link in my Bio.
HB 3234 - Prohibits commitment of children with intellectual disabilities without consent of parent or legal guardian.
HB 2281 - Requires school districts and public charter schools to designate civil rights coordinators. Prescribes duties of civil rights coordinators.
Rep. Nguyen will read both on the House Floor for a vote at 11:00am.
This we celebrate and stand in solidarity with the trans community. You are seen, heard, and loved.
As a legislator, I am committed to making sure we all have the freedom to be who we are.
