When I started LBL, it was just candles for me. I used this business to bring out my inner creativity and only wanted the attention on my products and services. For those who know me, know that I am not shy (lol), but when it came to showing my face for my business I did back into a corner. So thanks to these two ladies, they gave me the confidence to start showing myself a little more to all the candle lovers and really interact with the community in a way I haven’t before.

Happy 3rd birthday to Lit By Lordy! Few days behind but couldn’t believe it when I saw it on my calendar. These last 3 years have flown by! The people I have met, the friends I’ve made, the skills I’ve learned and much more.. couldn’t have been made without starting my business. Everyone has been so supportive since my first day and couldn’t thank everyone enough.

After a LONG much needed break, we’re ready to get back into the swing of things. The holidays, wedding planning and my 9-5 was a lot but safe to say, we all made it. This year we’ll be focusing more on simple designs and items.

Last year we experimented with a few different trends and took notice on what caught everyone’s eye. This year we’ll be focusing on a simpler approach in our designs. Designs that fit in everyone’s home and can be used all year round.

The holidays are probably the most overwhelming times of the year for small businesses. For some like myself, this is a second job on top of a full time job. We do this because we are passionate. As I’ve shared in the past, as amazing as it is to own a business, there are some everyday struggles.

As we all know this year has been an expensive one for everyone. Life in general has become expensive and unfortunately my products aren’t everyday necessities. And I am the first to understand that.

I have never been the one to ask anyone for support. I never ask anyone to help, or push on buying my products. It is who I have been my entire life. But seeing the amazing support over the years has been amazing and can’t thank those enough.

As shown in my post, support comes in different ways. If you know someone that owns a business, send them a text and say hey.. good job. Or hey I’m proud of you. Or if you have extra time, “hey i have some free time, need any help”. Those small gestures mean the WORLD to us. Outsiders may think the only way to support is financially. Yeah it’s great when we sell product.. don’t get me wrong. But the kindness of others is what keeps us going.

So I will say this once before I continue ranting on..

DONT ask me for a discount
DONT ask me when the next sale will be
DONT ask me why I charge X amount

Do you question why Nordstrom, Abercrombie and other brands price the way they do? Do you reach out to Jeff Bezos asking for a discount? No, I can assure you, you don’t.

So take the time today and reach out to someone you know that owns a business and tell them how proud you are. Or how much you love their stuff. Or even just post something.

This post may come off “aggressive” or “rude”. But I’m just being honest and want to honor all of the small businesses around and get them the respect they deserve. Some of the business owners I know are some of the hardest working people I know.
