The significance of the Nataraja (Nataraj) sculpture is said to be that Shiva is shown as the source of all movement within the cosmos, represented by the arch of flames.

This cosmic dance of Shiva is called 'Anandatandava,' meaning the Dance of Bliss, and symbolizes the cosmic cycles of creation and destruction, as well as the daily rhythm of birth and death.

The purpose of the dance is to release from illusion of the idea of the "self" and of the physical world.

The term 'Nataraj' means 'King of Dancers' (Sanskrit nata = dance; raja = king).

🐘 Most notoriously known as the remover of obstacles. But did you know Ganesh is also known as the “Lord of Obstacles”? He puts difficulties in the ways of the enemies of the gods themselves or of their followers.

Son of Śiva and Pārvatī.

🐘 According to the most generally accepted version, his head having been cut off, Śiva ordered the gods to bring the head of the first living being they should meet within the northern quarter, and though this proved to be that of a one-tusked elephant, its head was made use of and Vighneśvara restored to life in this manner, whence is derived another of this names, Ekadanta, the one-tusked.

🐘 Another legend is when Vyāsa found himself unable to write down the verses of the epic as quickly as they came into his mind, called upon Brahmā, who sent Ganeśa; and he, with his four hands, undertook to write as much as two men could.

I had the fortune and honor to meet most of the YTT300 students in person this past weekend. I’ve been seen their growth for the past nine months to 1 year and a half. We shared many laughs and supported each other in difficulty. We learned to open our hearts and minds.

It has been a joy to be part of your journey and be a little tinny drop of water watering the soil for your seed to grow and bloom.
