Looks like I was just published in the San Diego Reader from a shoot I did for Yamaha last April one of their artists. :)

Rocking Rachmaninoff Dave Mustaine’s appearance with the San Diego Symphony was an ambitious collaboration of rock and classical. San Diego’s Mosaic Quartet is all about mixing rock and Rachmaninoff. Three members have studied at a conservatory. They mix classical passages throughout their pop songs.

Great to see the insanely talented Michael Lucarelli at a wedding recently. Took a few minutes to get some head shots while we were chatting. Always a pleasure, brother.

So I didn't say anything about it during the campaign, but as it happens I got to interact fairly closely with Mitt Romney and the whole Romney family when I photographed the wedding of their son Ben to his bride Andelyne a few years back.

I am not taking a political position here in any way, but during the campaign the one impression that I felt everyone got wrong was this idea that Mitt Romney is cold and devoid of personality. Robotic, as the joke went. I know some will immediately blame 'the media' for this misapprehension but I think that Mr. Romney's handlers have to accept at least part of the blame for not allowing him to be himself, much as Al Gore's handlers did during his run at the oval office.

For the record, at least on the occasion of his son's wedding, Mitt Romney was warm, genuine, funny, and infectiously charismatic. In many ways he was actually almost...boyish in his obvious pride and physical affection for his family. As an aside he is also absurdly photogenic, but you probably already knew that.

Anyway I mention it because it made me pointedly aware of just how orchestrated the image and persona of these candidates has become in our media age, and not always to the best effect. It makes me think that we really have no way of knowing anything about them through the veil of manipulation. It also made me appreciate just how lucky I am to witness people on a day that is usually one of their very best.

Of course I also mention it just so that I can take the opportunity to say "na na na boo boo - I shot a Romney wedding!" :P
