The Story of Pave

You may have heard us speak of the Devadasi System where young girls are dedicated to the gods of the temple and are expected to serve there the rest of their lives. What was once an honor, is now no more than temple prostitution. Around 1988 the system was declared illegal but is still carried on today. We have found many women in the red-light area came from the devadasi system for various reasons, aging out, sold for more money and so on. And so, we come to the story of Pave.

Pave has been coming to our center for quite some time. She was raised in the devadasi system and sold into the red-light area, where we work, when she was 19-years old. She has been forced to work here for 15 years. During this time, she has had three children and lost all hope of ever going home and seeing her family. She came to our center to learn sewing and for the past six months we have given her a job of cleaning our center every day. While counseling with Pave she became a believer. Recently, she shared with our staff that she had been praying that she would one day see her family again. We heard that someone from our area was headed to Pave’s village. Pave gave them her phone number and asked them if they came across her family to please give them her phone number. Pave had no idea if her family still lived in the same village. Not only had she not seen them in over 15 years, but she had not had any contact with them at all. We were all hoping and praying for Pave. A few weeks later Pave got a call from her family and reunited with her parents. Pave told her parents that she had been working at our center and that she had learned to sew through our program. Please pray with us that Pave’s faith will remain strong, and she will be able to share her story with her family so her family too will see the faithfulness of God and how He brought Pave back to them. This story is nothing short of a miracle. We are so happy for Pave being able to reunite with her family after 15 years. Thank you for all the ways you support the work of Rahab's Rope!

Hi Friends!! Thank you for supporting my small business. I haven’t been as active here because the last few months have been challenging and busy for our family.

On November 9th my beautiful Mama went to be with Jesus. It’s been an emotional, yet sweet last few weeks. Thinking, and remembering, and missing her. 💖

I wanted to share with you, for your prayers, but also to express my thanks for supporting us all year long.

As a small business, I depend on pop shops and online sales, especially during Christmas time- but this year I have not been able to be at pop shops due to the weekends being times I spent with family and other priorities. Due to my inactivity here, the online sales are also slow.

From our Founder

Many times over the last seventeen years I have had the thought; what if one of our girls was the one that became brave enough and had the courage to stand up and make a change for girls all over India. It can happen. I often use the quote; "To the world you may be just one person, but to one person you may be the world." Do you ever thing about that? You could be the person to change someone's life! That thought is amazing.

Rahab's Rope is an anti-trafficking organization, yet we operate a preschool for 75 children and provide afterschool tutoring for 80 children kindergarten through 12th grade. To paint a picture of how these two fit together I would like to share some statistics with you. They may just seem like reading numbers but I assure you each number has a name and a face. Many of them I can see as I am writing these stats.

50% of Indian children age 6-18 do not go to school.

According to UNCIEF, India has the highest number of child brides in the world – 15,509,000. One-third of the entire world’s child marriages.

In India, there are approximately 2 million children trafficked for s*x between the ages of 5 and 15 years old and about 3.3 million between 15 and 18 years old. They form 40% of the total population of trafficked s*x workers in India. 71% of them are illiterate. 500,000 children are forced into this trade every year.

95 in every 1000 children born in India do not see their fifth birthday.

The correlation fits. Rahab's Rope provides aftershcool tutoring to keep children in school and help parents understand the importance of education. We operate a preschool for a solid foundation and we provide teenage girls and women life skill classes. This is prevention of trafficking!
