🪡 Japanese Boro Mending workshop, one week from today! Learn the Japanese Boro technique to create your own patchwork textile made from scraps. Oliver will teach you all the basics of boro hand sewing so if you’re new to sewing that’s just fine! All materials will be provided but if you’d like to make something using your own scraps you’re more than welcome to bring them with you! This technique is perfect for getting through small to midsize scraps and is sure to always create a unique and interesting textile that can be used for any future creations!

Here’s a sneak peek at the first episode in a new 4-part series where San Antonio-born Mexican American artist, Chicano activist, cultural adjustor and culinary historian, Rolando Briseño sits down with guests to chat about their shared love for food, culture and art!
In this episode, the topic on the table is Mole, or 'sauce', a traditional marinade originally used in Mexican cuisine, with special guest and Mi Teirra Executive Chef, Roberto Gonzalez Fong.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with El Grito, art shows and parades

"Hispanic Heritage Month activities in San Antonio this year include storytelling, art exhibits, El Grito in Market Square, a parade and dance and musical performances. Most events will take place during the traditional timeframe of commemoration — Sept. 15-Oct. 15 — and many will unfold in and around downtown.
The City of San Antonio’s Arts and Culture Department and Diez y Seis de Septiembre Commission partnered with public agencies and civic groups to assemble a range of events."

Park(ing) Day is a global, participatory event inviting the community to temporarily transform curbside parking spaces and streetscapes into public parks and social spaces that prioritize walking, biking, expressing creativity, and playing. Hosted by Centro San Antonio in partnership with the 80 I 20 Foundation, the celebration will feature 20+ hyper-local designers, architects, non-profits, students, businesses, and residents activating Houston Street (between N. Main and Laredo) with mini-parks, live music, lunch time bites, and dynamic street experiences.

From September 5 through February 9, that legacy will be honored at a new show at Centro de Artes Gallery in Market Square. The Texas Music Incubator Rebate (TMIR) Program, a tax rebate program for qualifying music venues and festival promoters in Texas, will begin accepting applications for Fiscal Year 2024 from September 1, 2024 through November 30, 2024.
The TMIR Program was established by Senate Bill 609 and signed into law by Governor Abbott following the 87th Legislative Session to help support the live music industry in communities across the state. The Program is administered by the Texas Music Office (TMO).
With $20.2 million in funding approved for the biennium in the 88th Legislative Session, the TMIR Program provides qualifying music venues and festival promoters in Texas a full or partial rebate of the mixed beverage gross receipts taxes or sales taxes attributable to the sale of beer and wine in the prior fiscal year (September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2024) of up to $100,000.
The application window for Fiscal Year 2024 will open on September 1, 2024 at 9AM CT, and will close on November 30, 2024.

The company said both partners and individual dancers should apply, and filming for this scene will take place all day on Thursday, September 12, in Austin.
