I talked to someone for about 30 minutes yesterday evening... She applied to work with us.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Towards the end of the call, I said:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I don't think we're the best fit to help you at this moment in time. You have a pen? Right this email down - I think he is better qualified to get you where you want to go send him an email.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She was shocked... Then thanked me profusely, and told me how refreshing it was to hear that.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She had mentioned that I was the first person who truly listened to her and gave her ethical and logical advice.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s not that being “turned down” is refreshing, it’s that not many people in our industry (it seems, at least) have the guts to value the person over the revenue.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I could’ve gotten her “in.” It would’ve been easy. She was already “half sold” and had applied to be a client.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Would it have helped our numbers? Yeah a little...but we aren’t playing a “short term” numbers game here.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I want to play at the very freaking top. I want to be around and still helping people 15 years from now…
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But we definitely will NOT get there with short term, short sighted “money making” decisions.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You get there by being honest and by telling people the truth even if it costs you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But in the long run, it doesn’t really cost you anything to be authentic. In the long run, it’ll make you more money than you can even imagine…
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because people flock to what’s different. Being honest is apparently an abnormality right now.

When I started in business, I'd hear people talk about investing in a mentor, a program, or a course and I'd think....nah! Those things don’t work. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I can work that out for myself because I’m a go-getter! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And, I did an OK job for the most part, but when I finally decided to invest in a business mentorship program...WHOA! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Did things change? Yes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Did I still have to put a ton of work in? Yes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Was it all worth it? Hell yes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Not only did I set out to make a difference for people I work with when I first started but now I have such clarity and focus to achieve bigger results for them and myself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
