Itโs past due to discuss Semaglutide (brand name Ozempic) that has become the most trendy and talked about therapy for weight loss.
โ
Semaglutide is actually a peptide (small chain of amino acids) that activates Glucagon-Like-Peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor increasing insulin secretion, decreasing glucagon secretion and delaying stomach emptying.
โ
In essence this down regulates oneโs appetite while also improving insulin/glucose signaling.
โ
Semaglutide is utilized in the diabetic population to help improve glucose utilization. The side effects that were discovered have been weight loss which has led to the massive increase in Semaglutide use outside the diabetic population.
โ
Semaglutide is very safe with the most frequent side effect being nausea. Due to the nausea, we slowly titrate the dose upwards over several weeks to months.
โ
We start with a low dose and over time (as tolerated) we increase that dose monthly. It is a once weekly injection which makes it very convenient.
โ
Many Hollywood celebs touting the benefits of this, weโve been receiving requests daily and finally brought it on board!
โ
I think Semaglutide is safe and can lead to weight loss over months but is certainly not a silver bullet. Because we compound it, we are able to offer it way less than brand name Ozempic.
โ
And for what itโs worth, it seems walking greater than 15,000 steps daily is your best approach to fat loss whether you use a peptide or not.
