A MESSAGE FROM CMSGT ANDERSON
Teamies,
Today was my last day as the Senior Enlisted Leader of Air Force Basic Military Training. The last 2.5 years have challenged me in ways that I never could have anticipated. Through it all, the MTI brotherhood/sisterhood kept me pushing to do what is right for the institution and all of you. I owe so much to so many of you who, in the end, made it all worth it.
There is a phenomenal leadership chain in place right now at the 737 TRG, 37 TRW, 2 AF, and AETC levels. There is much work ahead to make BMT what is needed for our Airmen, the Air Force, and the Nation. Yet, I am at peace knowing that my successor, CMSgt Jack, is just as passionate about BMT and the MTI Corps as I am. I am excited to see how he leads this amazing organization and will be cheering him on from the United Kingdom with my family.
Being the BMT Senior Enlisted Leader has been the highest honor of my career. There is part of me that wishes I could stay here forever… But there’s another part of me that knows… It’s time…
Thank you, all, for an amazing 2.5 years. I love you all and will see you at the MTI Weeks in October!
V/R,
DANIEL P. ANDERSON, CMSgt, USAF
BMT SEL, 12 Jan 22 – 8 Aug 24

Big shout out to CMSgt Daniel Anderson as he completes his tour of duty as the Air Force Basic Training Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL). Over the last 2.5 years, Chief Anderson has been nothing short of phenomenal in dealing with the myriad of challenges the unit and he have faced. He has been a pillar of strength, a mentor to all, and cemented himself as one of BMT’s all-time “legends.” We wish him the very best as he moves on to the Medical Group SEL position at RAF Mildenhall.
We are extremely excited to welcome CMSgt Whit Jack on his return to BMT as the new SEL. An absolute superstar during his prior assignment to BMT, we are expecting nothing but great things from him on his return “home.”
We wish both of these extraordinary leaders nothing but the best as they continue their Air Force journeys!
All prior MTI’s are invited to join “MTI Mass”, consisting of past & present MTIs; BMT Graduation Parade, Thursday, 10 Oct 2024. The morning of MTI Week culmination events!🦅

Teamies, we are trying to track down information on a TSgt Taylor and SSgt Duke who served in the 3704 BMTS in July/August of 1974. They trained a former CMSAF who would like to contact them if they are still around. We do not have first names for these MTIs. Any information would be helpful. Thank you!

Happy Father’s Day from your MTIA‼️
Special shout out to all Dad’s in uniform🇺🇸
Huge shout out to Command CMSgt Justin Apticar on the occasion of his retirement after 30 years of faithful and dedicated service to his country and the U.S. Air Force. He culminates a remarkable career as the 19th Air Force Command Chief Master Sergeant. While serving as an MTI, Chief Apticar was selected as the BMT Blue Rope of the Year, the most prestigious award a Military Training Instructor can receive. Congratulations and Godspeed in the coming years!
This morning, BMT commemorated the 80th anniversary of the Allied Force's invasion of Nazi-occupied France. In the early hours of June 6th, 1944, 12 Allied countries launched Operation OVERLORD… the largest combined naval, land, and air operation in the history of warfare. On that day, more than 5,000 combat troops were wounded and 4,414 made the ultimate sacrifice. In the ensuing Battle of Normandy (which stretched into August), 153,000 combat troops were wounded and 73,000 were killed.
The US Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that less than one percent of the 16.4 million Americans who served in World War II are still with us today. BMT was fortunate enough to have two World War II veterans who represent that one percent attend Graduation Parade.
Lt Col Norris Wynne, USAF (Ret.) - Lt Col Wynne began his career with the Army Air Corps in 1943 and flew B-17s during the war. He retired from the Air Force in 1970.
Boilerman 3rd Class Richard Welch, US Navy Veteran - Mr. Welch served on the USS Radford in the Pacific Theater starting in 1944. He completed his enlistment in 1948.
The MTI Corps honored both of these veterans with an MTI Mass and the USAF MTIA sponsored a flyover of a T-6 Texan and C-45 Expeditor from the Commemorative Air Force’s Central Texas Wing. These World War II era aircraft were used by Air Training Command as part of the pilot training pipeline that prepared Airmen to fly various airframes, including those who flew C-47 troop carriers that dropped 13,000 American paratroopers behind enemy lines 80 years ago today.
As representatives of America’s Greatest Generation, Lt Col Wynne and Boilerman 3rd Class Welch embody our tradition of honor. We salute them and express our deepest gratitude for their service and sacrifice, and for the service and sacrifice of all this who fought in World War II in the name of freedom.
