Macy's is closing 150 stores (mainly blue)
Starbucks has closed 61 stores (mainly blue)
Home Depot is closing 15 stores
Dollar Tree is closing 1,000 stores
Foot Locker is closing 400 stores
Gap is closing 350 stores
Party City is closing 24 stores (mainly blue)
Big Lots is closing stores in Cali and Colorado
Burger King is closing 400 stores
Best Buy is closing 20 stores
Boston Market is closing 27 stores
Kmart only has 2 stores left
Sears closed all but 22 stores
Regal Cinemas has closed 429 movie theaters
Kroger grocery chain has closed 413 stores
US Bank is closing 23 branches
Wells Fargo is closing over 60 branches
Capital One is closing 50 branches
Bank of America is closing 20 branches

All because the economy is so wonderful.

I grew up in a house in Detroit, Michigan.
I never once questioned my Father or Mom's Income!! It was never a discussion. We ate homemade meals consisting of meat, potatoes, and vegetables - (which were not an optional choice). No vegetables, no dessert!!! Eat it All or Go Hungry. We never touched anything that did not belong to us. We never opened a refrigerator at anyone's house unless asked to do so. We were taught to respect other peoples property. And we were rewarded for acting properly.
We grew up during a time when we mowed lawns, pulled weeds, babysat, helped with all chores. We by no means were given everything we wanted. We went outside a lot to play, run with friends, play hide and seek, or went bike riding. We rarely just sat inside.
Bottled water was unheard of. If we had a Pepsi,❤️ ( A Daniel Tome Sr. If it was Dad and Kool Aid From Mom
it was in a glass bottle and we didn’t break the bottle when finished. We saved the bottle for the return money.
We had to tell our parents where we were going, who we were going with, and be home before dark..
You LEARNED from your parents instead of disrespecting them and treating them as if they knew absolutely nothing. What they said was LAW and you did not question it and you had better know it! We watched what we said around our elders and neighbors because we knew if we DISRESPECTED any grown-up, we would get a real good whooping, it wasn't called abuse, it was called discipline!
We held the doors for others and carried the shopping into the house. We gave up our seat for an older person without being asked.
You didn't hear swear words on the radio in songs or on TV.
“Please and Thank you", were part of our daily vocabulary!
The world we live in now is just so full of people who hate and disrespect others.
Friends, consider re-posting if you're thankful for your childhood. I will never forget where I came from and only wish children and people nowadays had half the chance at the fun and respect for real life we grew up with! And we were never bored!

Talk about prolific.

Between October 1961 and February 1964, Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers with Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton, Jymie Merritt or Reggie Workman recorded an astonishing EIGHT albums. All eight albums had different material - mostly original material. One of the most interesting recordings they made was this 1963 recording of the music from the musical “Golden Boy.” Quite interesting considering Golden Boy didn’t open until October of 1964! Golden Boy was written and debuted originally in 1937 and made into a movie in 1939. Nobody saw it again until Sammy Davis, Jr. came back with it in 1964. For this recording, Blakey expanded the Messengers with his previous (and soon-to-be returning) trumpeter Lee Morgan, James Spaulding on alto sax, Julius Watkins on French horn, Charles Davis on baritone sax, and Bill Barber on tuba. This album was recorded on Colpix Records, which was the specific soundtrack wing of Columbia Records. For that reason, it’s funny that this recording would become an obscure collector’s item. Also, Golden Boy was about a boxer. Did Colpix mistakenly give Art Blakey a dogi, thinking that it was a boxer’s robe? 😂😂 Anyhow, the record was released around the same time the musical opened on Broadway in the fall of 1964. Blakey had long moved on from the music of Golden Boy by the time the album was released. To my knowledge, they never played this music live. It’s a collectors item for all of us Bu nerds.
