The market is still going ⬆️ and ⬇️, which means you may be experiencing losses.

But what’s the difference between a paper loss and an actual loss? Here’s a quick review:

🟢 Paper Loss: You have an investment, but it’s worth less today than you originally paid for it.
🟢 Actual Loss: You had an investment and sold it for a lower price than you originally paid.

The key is that you can only get an actual loss if you sell. If the actual loss was housed in a taxable account (an account set up for trading stocks, bonds, ETFs, and index funds), you might be able to claim a deduction up to $3,000 per year!

On this day in history, an incredible gift arrived in New York City 🗽.

That’s correct, on June 17, 1885, the disassembled Statue of Liberty arrived in the New York Harbor! The statue was a sign of friendship from the French, and it came in 350 pieces in over 200 crates. In total, it took 9 years to build and 4 months to reassemble on its new pedestal.

And here’s another fun fact: one of the engineers who designed it was Gustave Eiffel, future maker of the Eiffel Tower.
