There has been progress in the early identification of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in the United States. According to a study from the CDC ASD identification by age 4 was four times as likely in 2016 then in 2002. The ability to identify children without co-occurring intellectual disability improved and children of every race and ethnicity are more likely to be identified over time. The AAP recommends taking autism action by having your child screened at their routine well child visits for ASD at ages 18 and 24 months.
