Hey guys! I just finished this pastel artwork a few weeks ago this February. I know it's been a while since I last posted here on my page. I'm finding it quite difficult to squeeze-in a good amount of time on my art because of work and other stuff going on with my life. And so, I'm very glad to finally take some photographs of my latest painting and share it on social media.
The title of the artwork is called "Flora," done using my usual oil pastels and pastel pencils on an 18" x 24" canvas panel. Flora, in Roman mythology, is the goddess of flowers; her counterpart in Greek mythology is "Chloris," which is believed to be of the same character. Flora has been depicted in numerous paintings from famous artists in the past - including Sandro Botticelli's masterpiece "Primavera," as well as "Flora" portraits by Titian, Francesco Melzi, and Rembrandt.
I wanted to create my own version of Flora, and she's shown here carrying a basket of red roses and sunflowers, adorned with a crown of flowers over her head and wearing a dress with decorative patterns that resembles vines and leaves. On an interesting note, I've used the face of actress Melissa Benoist as my reference for creating Flora. Melissa Benoist is best known for playing the role of Supergirl from the TV series of the same title, from 2015 to 2021.
(Fyi, I'll post this painting on my website soon.)
Yes, I still paint! Wishing everyone here a Happy New Year, and hope you can check out my new blog post below:
