This past weekend, as the temperature rose into the 100s we headed into the desert for our July Water Drop. Due to the excessive heat, we opened this event only to experienced hikers with prior water drop experience. Along with the commitment to preventing desert deaths, we also uphold the responsibility of ensuring the safety of all of our volunteers. We are so grateful to this group for spending their long holiday weekend in support of our mission of love. With their help, we were able to leave water alongside care packages with socks, bandanas, electrolytes, etc.
Our upcoming Water Drop sign-up links will be posted soon. For more information, you can email our coordinator at [email protected]. You can find both our wishlist and donate to our Water Drop program through the link in bio or story highlights.

We are so excited to announce the partnership with Director Alex Ramsey and Cross Cut Pictures on the short film Limbo! Limbo is the story of a young man named Edward, who came to the US from Mexico on foot 10 years ago in search of a better life. Finding his path to citizenship bureaucratically impeded, possibly forever, he grapples with the idea of leaving the life he built in New York behind forever in exchange for a long overdue homecoming. Will Edward reunite with his family or continue in his precarious liminal state? Our Voice Nuestra Voz reached out to us a while back, and while the pandemic halted our meeting for a bit, last week they were able to finally join us on Water Drop upon our reopening all the way from New Orleans. OVNV I is a nation-building organization, anchoring ancestry while building Black and Brown solidarity. They did so by spending time not only with us, but with organizations like Haitian Bridge Alliance. Even though they don’t find themselves living on the U.S /Mexico border they understood that the immigration policies still continue to affect the communities they serve. As OVNV founder Marydee recognized “Louisiana has become the second largest (immigration) detention hub in the US making it the incarceration and detention capital of the world.“ The energy and spirit that all of the participants had was inspiring! We are so touched by how much peace and love they brought to the desert along with the supplies we left behind. At the beginning of the trek, the participants started singing and really brought out their spiritual energy, and at the end, they left a moment of silence for those who had lost their lives and did a cleanse for the group. We are so grateful for their presence, and healing brought to spaces like the desert which are so thoroughly filled with trauma. THANK YOU OVNV! We also want to shout out Albana and Lia, our safety monitors! With this group, we were able to replenish sites through which we found consumed items and leave over a dozen gallons and packages including pop-top cans, cooling blankets, long sleeve t-shirts, electrolyte packets, and more. If your school/group/organization would like to join us or find out what other educational opportunities are available please email us at [email protected] today! #borderangels #waterdrop #educationalgroups
When you support our Shelter Aid program you help us provide meals for migrant families! Check out the latest dinner from our supported shelter Volviendo a la Patria! Our migrant friends dined on some bacon-wrapped pork loin, carne con chile stew, and rice. Our Shelter Aid program continues to provide holistic support to 15 shelters in Tijuana, feeding and assisting hundreds of migrants daily. Help us help migrant families as we cover rent, utilities, groceries, provide mental health workshops and services through our partnership with Psicologos Sin Fronteras, B.C. You can donate to help our shelter network here: borderangels.org/donate #shelteraid #borderangels #donate
Meet Nilson, our first Familias Reunidas bond fund recipient this year! He is a 45-year-old recipient from Peru who spent 7 months inside the Otay Mesa Detention Center. Celebrating on this lovely Thursday as another group is headed to the US after we assisted them through Title 42 exemptions, a process exclusive to asylum seekers who have been in our supported shelters. “A small but mighty group, thank you Border Angels!” We share in their excitement and want to thank all of you, as we could not do this work without you, and without the amazing partnership with Psicologos Sin Fronteras, B.C. Thank you for your continued support and for helping us bring this small but incredibly important relief at the border to the families who have been waiting up to two years for a chance to present their asylum case. #BorderAngels #Title42Exemptions #Asylum
Another family has safely crossed to the US after we assisted them through Title 42 exemptions, a process exclusive to asylum seekers who have been in our supported shelters. We received another lovely video to lift our spirits this week! We continue our work with Title 42 exemptions, a process exclusive to asylum seekers who have been in our supported shelters. This past Saturday, we assisted asylum seekers from Jardin de las Mariposas. Jardin de las Mariposas provides housing and assistance to members of the LGBTQI+ migrant and asylum-seeking community, as well as HIV+ persons. Many of the people who have been presented at the border under Title 42 exemptions and are part of the LGBTQI+ community have been identified through this shelter. Thank you for your continued support and helping us bring this small but incredibly important relief at the border to the families who have been waiting up to two years for a chance to present their asylum case. Our friends at Volviendo a la Patria shelter celebrated Ms. Vanessa’s birthday, who is part of the shelter direction, with chiles rellenos. Volviendo a la Patria houses many diverse people, including these Haitian migrants trying chiles rellenos for the first time. Thanks to your generous donations and helping feed our migrant siblings. #BorderAngels #ShelterAid #Tijuana
“What we have to remind ourselves with the prior administration is they created a humanitarian crisis by closing the border. So, policies like Title 42 and Remain in Mexico have caused an accumulation of migrants in the Tijuana border for example. What that has meant for migrants in the last two years is that they had to wait in danger, in Mexico, for their court hearings. So it’s very different from what we had before where migrants were able to present themselves at the port of entry be, processed into the United States, make their claim for asylum, go in front of an immigration judge after an extreme vetting process and make their claim. That stopped with the prior administration, and unfortunately with this current Biden administration, these policies are still ongoing.” Thanks to the crew from Morning Rush and everyone at Newsy for chatting with us and informing their listeners on the causes and dangers of inhumane border policies, and the tragic loss of 51 migrants this Monday in San Antonio. #BorderAngels #SanAntonio
Next Monday, barring any judicial surprises, the era of Title 42 will end. The law provides for the blocking of migrants' entry for health security reasons, has been applied by the Trump administration in the height of the pandemic and has been kept up by Biden, at least until now. The administration predicts that with the removal of Title 42, approximately eighteen thousand people will try to cross the border every day. Precisely in California, in San Diego County, we walked a section of the path used by illegal immigrants in an attempt to escape the Border Patrol. Even in recent months the desert of the Jacumba mountains has killed hundreds of people, migrants struck down by the fury of the elements whose bodies are often not even found. Accompanying us is Dulce Garcia, Executive Director of the Border Angels humanitarian organization. The "border angels" leave cans of water, food and clothing along the border paths for migrants to use. Dulce arrived in the United States as a child and despite the difficulties she managed to become a lawyer specializing in the rights of migrants. Read the full article here: http://ow.ly/jMW450JfYUB
