This is the reality of rescue right now. These are puppies, just babies someone tossed into the Apple Valley Shelter without a second thought.
Until we start to make SPAY AND NEUTER available for everyone will this never change. This a shelter in Apple Valley, CA that we've rescued from over the years.
To see these posts day after day from dozens of California shelters... is soul crushing. After over a decade of doing this endless work, we and our fellow California rescues are tired, broke and weary.
Even if we were able to save all of these dogs, we would be saddled with ALL of their vet bills, including spay/neuter, vaccinations, worming, microchips, back surgeries, parvo, knee surgeries. We would be holding adoption events, begging for fosters and adopters. Holding bake sales and begging for donations. Staying up all night with sick dogs, racking up tens of thousands in vet bills.
All the while the big box animal organizations (Best Friends, ASPCA, HSUS, Peta, SPCA) who are doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to save death row dogs are raking in donations and paying BIG salaries. They actually lobby against any life saving measures to help these poor animals.
And after all of that....some adopters would even return dogs to us after they they tire of them. People would write bad reviews on social media for your charity work. It's an uphill battle that few would even attempt to do....
It's like no one cares anymore. Which is HEARTBREAKING for those of us who have invested our hearts, soul and retirement future to help solve the problem.
There I've said it.
Great article about the deplorable policy of dumping of cats in San Diego by the Humane Society.
The TRIAL is next week! We hope some of those who are concerned about the fraud and waste and San Diego Humane Society will attend.
They are being sued for tossing out the cats in the street while collection TENS OF MILLIONS of dollars from San Diego taxpayers and countless donations. Paying their CEO $32,000 a month. Time to EXPOSE THE DECEPTION!

Did you know that one of the LARGEST law firms in the world is defending the Humane Society ~ paying them with our tax dollars and donations? INSTEAD OF HELPING THE CATS they are charged with helping.

These are our pals who rescue horses! Annette has such a beautiful place for her rescue horses. We visited a few years back for an afternoon with Pam and Kimberly and it was AMAZING! She works, works and works some more to give these horses a beautiful life. AND she rescues dalmations! She saved a lucky pup from Devore many moons ago 🐾

On Friday JULY 12, 2024 at 1:30, AND 🐈 Mon-Thur July 15-18 9-4:30…the long awaited TRIAL against SAN DIEGO HUMANE SOCIETY for dumping and abandoning CATS is happening!!!
WE NEED PEOPLE, LOTS OF PEOPLE TO ATTEND THE TRIAL TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR THE CATS. This lawsuit was filed in Feb of 2021, it has been slowly working its way through the court system. OUR TIME HAS COME.
Last week, the judge even commented on those of us who were in the courtroom standing up for the CATS! WE WERE NOTICED. SD HUMANE had no one there except for one sad lonely attorney.
This case is SUPER important because other CA Shelters would love to start dumping their cats as well. San Diego Humane is collecting over $20,000,000 in taxpayer money and countless donations and THEY ARE DUMPING FRIENDLY, DOMESTICATED CATS OUT ON THE STREETS. And hiring attorneys to defend this abandonment policy.
The ruling in this case will have far reaching ramifications for orphaned cats in California.
Here is the news story and an interview with our attorney Bryan Pease Bryan and Parisa from PeaseLaw.org brought the lawsuit in early 2021.

THIS VERY MONDAY June 24th Sacramento, CA! Can’t wait ❤️
Our call for TRANSPARENCY in California shelters was defeated by the shelters and their lobbyists. Proverbial FOX in the henhouse. Taxpayers of California, need to know....they will NEVER do the decent thing on their own.
Many of us are shocked California Assembly Members (Buffy Jo Wicks, Dist 14 headed up the committee) are that INCREDIBLY GULLIBLE to believe Cal Animals as the "experts" when our California Shelters are in such obvious CRISES because of their mismanagement for decades.
Instead of using their millions to help animals, they use their time and money to lobby against any progress or any TRANSPARENCY. All that money could have used in so many ways to benefit animals. For an OBVIOUS start we need to build a robust spay and neuter program in California that anyone can use. Curious why haven't these "experts" figured out this simple math problem? The hundreds of dogs we have rescued were NEVER spayed or neutered, we had to pay for that ourselves.
Remember the old saying "follow the money"?
Cal Animals lobbyists solution is to continue to advocate for the killing 100,000 adoptable, companion animals in California every year.
And they say it’s too much trouble to announce who they are going to kill next — with a tag on the cage or an email blast. It's just too hard for them.
That’s the 100,000 animals they've decided to admit to. There are countless animals across California shelters that are unaccounted for, missing, stolen or escaped. Many are never even entered into the system with an ID. In fact, at some shelters, they have special areas, where dogs go, and disappear- at Baldwin Shelter in Los Angeles for example.
Those of us who have worked within this corrupt shelter system absolutely know what goes on.
Sadly, AB2265 was defeated by the lies that were told by Cal Animals, who fancy themselves to be the EXPERTS in sheltering our homeless animals. Just look at the job the EXPERTS are doing in our shelters! And they double down on the killing. Killing 100,000 dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, bunnies every year.
They tell us, it would be just too hard to disclose who they are going to kill next. LAZY SOCIOPATHS, paid with our tax dollars are failing our community.
Cal Animals and the shelter directors who belong to their little club.....claim there is no need to do the decent thing. Kristi Noem has taken alot of heat, but these sociopaths are no different in their belief: they believe puppies don't deserve a second chance to live or be adopted or rescued.
They prefer to kill behind closed doors, THAT IS THE SYSTEM THEY PREFER, instead of a system that saves lives.
They lied as the always do and said would be “too expensive” and “dangerous dogs” would be set free. Huh?
Did you also know they regularity retaliate against volunteers and 501c3 rescue groups who point out the neglect and abuse seen every day in the shelters? Ban them from a public tax funded facility?
The experts have made such a mess of the shelters, families won’t take their children to see these cesspools of despair, suffering and filth.
And the “top” dog catchers are grossly overpaid. Marsha Mayeda, LA County Shelter who has mismanaged SIX shelters is paid $100,000 MORE in base salary than Governor Newsom. After 20 long years in her position, look at the horrific mess her shelters are in. That is but one example of an overpaid head dog catcher in California.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO EXPOSE AND FIGHT FOR THE ANIMALS AND THEIR RIGHT TO LIVE OUT THEIR LIVES.
.
UNBELIEVABLE UPDATE: TRANSPARENCY BILL AB 2265 DEFEATED. SEEMS OUR GULLIBLE ASSEMBLY MEMBERS ALIGN WITH KRISTI NOEM TO SAY PUPPIES DON'T DESERVE A SECOND CHANCE & taxpayers who fund animal shelters don't deserve TRANSPARENCY!!!! Yes, I was yelling. This fight is not over. * TAKE 20-30 seconds and call to save lives!!! Support our tireless work on AB 2265. Much needed: “Shelter Transparency Act “
Call Buffy Wicks 916 319 2014
Today!!!! Monday May 13th! The shelters (and their closers -Cal Animals) are FIGHTING TRANSPARENCY! Why??? Why??? Why??? Why??
Need support for "ANIMAL SHELTER TRANSPARENCY ACT" AB 2265! Ck below for details!
BEGGING for our animal loving friends to send a quick email to this group of Assembly Members!!! And to share this post. WE ONLY HAVE A FEW DAYS! CALL THE CHAIR: BUFFY WICKS at 916.319.2014 to urge a YESSSSSSSS vote on AB 2265.
An email to SUPPORT AB 2265, the information is below. You can just cut and paste the names into your email browser.
Let them know:
1. You support AB 2265 giving ADOPTABLE shelter animals EVERY OPPORTUNITY to be saved and rescued.
2. We know that the shelters ALREADY have the software, to provide notification of which animals they plan to kill. It is called CHAMELEON and they are currently using it. We taxpayers bought and now pay for ~each and every month.
3. Tell them, NOT TO FALL for the disinformation shelters are blasting them with right now. They claim it would be too expensive, and that dangerous dogs could be released into the community.
This is not a bill about dangerous dogs~ As usual, the shelters have banded together to pretend they are the experts in this field and kill every bill that would help animals. Shelters have millions upon millions of dollars of tax money, look at the mess they've made of the current system... yet want to keep the status quo?
IN SHORT.....We want to give every animal in the shelter the best opportunity to be saved! This is a requirement that CA shelters POST THE DOGS AND CATS THEY PLAN TO KILL BEFORE THEY KILL THEM. It's not too much ask... Thank you. Christine and Steve

Rescue work is hard and heartbreaking. What is happening in America with our pets?
Our California shelters are cesspools, run by overpaid dog catchers who often collect salaries greater than our Governor, who are verifiable sociopaths by any measure. (ASPD)
Sharing story this because people should know what others are capable of when faced with a tough decision. Who kills a dog they no longer want?
We just heard about "Cricket" in South Dakota. She looked a lot like our little Checkers. Governor Kristi Noem is proudly boasting she took a 14 month old puppy to her gravel pit and shot her in face. Along with 3 horses and a goat.
I'll admit, we're pretty tough after a decade of hearing all sorts of stories about animal abuse~ but this is beyond the pale.
Our animals are at our mercy, and I am reminded of this every single day. We can do better. And that is why Steve and I advocate for animals and straight up volunteer to do this work.
** We are currently working to support a bill to help shelter animals receive a formal notice to the rescues and the community before being killed. AB 2265. The shelters can use the software that tax payers have ALREADY PURCHASED to called "Chameleon " implement this life saving measure. Of course, Cal Animals and the shelter have a misinformation campaign to kill the bill..... just like they did with BOWIE'S bill last year. They see the killing as job security, they do nothing to create spay/neuter programs. Any push back from the rescue community is met with full on opposition. TRANSPARENCY SAVES LIVES. Attached is copy of the bill and the email addresses. WE ONLY HAVE A FEW DAYS.
We would love if our community could take a moment to send an email to these committee members to say you would support this life saving measure.

❤️What do these little ones have in common?
They are San Bernardino City Shelter pups….and pure LOVE.
Left to right: Emmie rescued at 6wks (now12) Ace, his mum rescued pregnant- he was born with 8 brothers and sisters in our office 10 yrs ago. Maverick, THEE most troubled dog we’ve ever met (and that’s saying alot!).
Rescued on his last day- aka Lover Boy at the shelter.
And then there is BANJO! The other redhead in the family. Tempermental, feisty and opinionated. There are others, who are probably in the house getting into mischief… gotta run….
Ace says: LOOKIE—They’re BACK!
After 10 years your old shirt could probably use a REFRESH! -
So cute, we have tie dye option now too!

Wahoo !!!! Spring is in the air!
Please read this, more horrific problems for our California Shelter dogs and cats. You can help with a phone call to the LA City Council ~ from anywhere. INFO in the last paragraph!!
THERE IS NO WAY TO SUGAR COAT THIS: JAKE MILLER, volunteer coordinator at Los Angles Animal Services emailed volunteers to let them know they would be killing 800 dogs in the next 4 weeks if VOLUNTEERS DID NOT DEVISE SOLUTIONS FOR THE OVERCROWDING!!!
THIS SHELTER (LAAS) HAS A THIRTY ONE MILLION $$$$ BUDGET provided by tax payers of California.
It isn't bad enough the animals are kept in horrific conditions, NO BEDS, WATER WITH GREEN SLIME ON IT. F***S AND URINE COVERED KENNELS, NO WALKS. Then after being held in these conditions, animals are unceremoniously killed and tossed out the back door of the shelter in body bags and sold for rendering.
THE MAYOR OF LA: MS. BASS has done nothing to address these issues.
YOU CAN DO SOMETHING TO RAISE AWARENESS, WHERE EVER YOU ARE!!! Go in person, or CALL!!
**Next Friday, March 15th at 9:45 there is going to be a RALLY of concerned citizens at the City Council meeting on the South lawn of CITY HALL Address: 200 N SPRING STREET 90012 (enter on Main Street for the meeting)

“In an email to volunteers, Los Angeles Animal Services staff threatened to kill 800 dogs in four weeks if volunteers did not come up with solutions to get them adopted. In the same email, staff told volunteers they did not want to hear about the need for programmatic solutions, putting the volunteers and the dogs in a no-win scenario. After public outcry, the shelter’s General Manager backpedaled, calling the email ’shocking’ and ’100% untrue,’ even though it was reviewed and approved at the highest levels before going out”: https://bit.ly/3VfenE5.

Anyone remember little Ruby?
RUBY ❤️❤️❤️. We rescued her from Moreno Valley shelter in CA about 10 years ago with the help of Susan B, that day we also saved a little one we named Sid. Ruby was adopted, and then returned. (That’s a story for another day 👹)
We KNOW one family that was so delighted that she was returned!!! because they fell in love immediately and they are all living happily ever after all these years! Thank you Christina for the update and beautiful photo!!! I've put another old photos of Ruby in the comments. She saw us on TV and recognized us!
This is a beautiful tribute from a huge animal advocate 💔💔💔

I have started to make this post a hundred times but today's the day. The reality is that my time is a constant juggle of triaging the lost and missing pets, loose strays and the dogs in my care. Social media or computer time comes last and is rare at best. Truth is that my days are spent fielding dozens of calls from owners, new adopters and rescues about missing pets that could have been avoided. Harnesses, Offleash time when newly placed, Unsupervised time in a new yard, Visits to the store for pet supplies with a new pet. All things to enjoy over a lifetime but for some reason so many seem to do too fast. Sadly, not all are happy endings and those take the hardest toll on me. After making a call last night to connect the dots that meant closure for an owner I am hoping that education of a different type can make a difference. I know it will fall on deaf ears in some cases (I've preached the same message to more than one owner or rescue multiple times, even some that have had a dog die from making the repeated mistakes). I wish I had the time to share all the reunions and educational stories I used to. I owe that to my followers and those that support me.
Everyone asks for a list...... The recovery process is not text book, black and white or the same so direct guidance from me is needed to be effective. However, these safety protocols are very black and white and can prevent a lost pet. They are most specific to a new dog in the home, regardless of origin and should be a lifetime for dogs with rescue or street stray history. You never know what one thing will trigger that flight response. Dogs are DOGS, an animal that operates on RAW instinct when they perceive danger, sometimes unexpected or unobserved by a human. These protocols give the dog time to get to know you, you time to get to know the dog and keep it safe along the way. It really is the rule of threes. AT LEAST........Three days before they decompress or start to relax, AT LEAST Three weeks before they start to feel at home, AT LEAST Three months before they fully settle in and start to show who they really are as dogs.
Several times a week I get a call related to each of the things on this list that could have been avoided. They may seem extreme or limiting but in reality all your dog wants is to be SAFE and LOVED UNCONDITIONALLY. Sooooo much of what we do with dogs is about us and our enjoyment, not as much them as we think it is. Dogs don't know what they don't have, they know what they experience.
Love this!
♥️🐾 Thank you, Amy Denise. Add the much loved “Senior” to this awesome list!!

Now coming up this VERY MONDAY, Feb 12th at 5pm.
Is this MY GOOD SIDE?
Cole came home this AM about 2:00.
We’re watching him super closely- happy to report the ER didn’t find anything horrible.
As you know, with senior dogs things can so happen fast, we wanted to be sure he was not in any danger.
We love this little nugget so very, very much. He’s had more than his share of health scares.
Thank you Conny, Trish and Alice for helping us with his ER visit ❤️and EVERYONE who reached out to bless him.
Happy New Year!
Paws crossed for Cole. Of course, it happens to be New Years Eve. And here we are…,
These dogs seem to have a 6th sense about regular vet hours. Manage to capture the holiday spirit.
It’s been Thanksgiving and Christmas in previous years. Cole is at VCA at Hotel Circle. Just Not himself, abs are super distended. No appetite. Not even snacks. Maybe he finally got that squirrel he’s been after for the last 10 years…. Waiting to see what’s ailing our lil old man 🐾
Happy Holidays and a BIG Merry Christmas from Gracie and Cole —2 of our rescues❤️along with our entire- someone shy pack.
Thank you for all of your love and support the whole year through to help dogs in need all across California.
Thank you Nathan Winograd for your constant vigilance and compassion in these issues that save lives. Cal Animals and Best Friends are just two of the MOST DAMAGING AND HYPOCRITICAL organizations to shelter animals. Using their donations to lobby against any lifesaving measures.

We’re a small dog rescue in San Diego, California. Founded by me.... Miss Christine and my husband is Mister Steve~~ we LOVE dogs! The dogs we rescue are considered special needs... they come from the highest kill shelters in Southern California. They often have behavior issues, special medical needs, and sometimes even have puppies.
Because the dogs are in such bad shape, they often stay with us for for many, many months before being adopted. Some are never adopted and will live out their life with us. We provide awesome care: vetting, healthy food, lots of love. We always take our dogs back from adopters if something should happen. This alone sets apart in the community. And when we are full and can no longer accept dogs, we help other rescues with their dogs!! We’ve helped with surgeries, grooming, and food. You’ll never see the ASPCA, the Humane Society or PETA at the high kill shelters pulling dogs off death row here in California. That is why your donation to the small rescues are so important, they don’t have the resources the “big box” organizations have.
We are a 501c3 IRS charity #90-0753223. Funded totally by donations and fundraisers in the community. Our website is: www.LuckyPupDogRescue.org . Please consider a monthly donation of as little as $5, it all adds up and really helps our dogs in need, as well as other dogs in the community. We are proud to support several other small rescues who help dogs in the Riverside area and San Bernardino area. Donations can be made on our website via paypal. Or checks can be sent to PO Box 3484 San Diego, CA 92163.
We are unable to take relinquishments at this time.
