It’s that time of the year that SD FILAMEDA hosted one of the exhibit booths . This time some of our student volunteers from Montgomery high school and Mar Vista high school stayed with us, distribute flyers and talked about FilVetRep. Thanks to the Mira Mesa students, too, who helped us set the booths.

It’s good to know that people who came to the booth have started knowing more and more about Philippine History and Culture, as well as FilvetRep, SD FILAMEDA’s project in collaboration with FilVetRep.

There is so much more that the young Filipino Americans, and their parents too, need to know about the Filipino American soldiers who fought alongside the United States and have sacrificed their lives to defend the US and the Philippines.

Let us not forget these soldiers, our Filipino American heroes, not only this Memorial Day, but every day and pray for their souls, that hopefully soon, the recognition they should have while they were still living be finally given to them, through their families. As we commemorate Memorial Day, let us learn about our Filipino Veterans who fought for the United States and the Philippines. Let us know about the great contribution of our Filipino American Veterans of the World War II and let us be proud of our heroes who gave up and offered their lives for our countries.

San Diego Filipino American Educators and Advocates’ Appreciation gathering hosted by SD FILAMEDA and OCBC was held at Skyline Hills Lubrary Branch, San Diego. Advocates, counselors, administrators, and teachers were honored and awarded certificates of appreciation, given flowers , thank you giveaways , and special gifts and meal-to-go.

SD FILAMEDA thanks the sponsors from OCBC and SD FILAMEDA for the food, the gifts, and the flowers. Special thanks to student volunteers from Mar Vista and Montgomery High schools.

⚠️Due to the scheduled bridge repair by Caltrans, southbound I-5 will be closed at I-8 from Friday, Sept. 8 at 9 p.m. to Monday, Sept. 11 at 5 a.m.

Caltrans advises motorists to take southbound I-805 before they are redirected to eastbound on I-8 to avoid traffic delays through downtown. Plan ahead and add additional time to reach your destination.

We hope to reach out to all San Diego County Filipino American Educators to join in the big celebration next year

FILAMEDA appreciate very much all the members who have come to help set up and put down the booths, those who dropped by and visited, and those who helped. This year's 3rd Fil Am Friendship festival celebration is very festive and we are able to reach out to the community to share about our history and culture.

Save the date, Saturday, May 4, 2024, for FILAMEDA's 50th anniversary celebration. Hoping and praying that all FILAMEDA members and coming members will be able to join. There will be a lot of activities year round to celebrate the 50th anniversary and we will start preparing this August 2023.
