Ocean Beach Veterans Plaza
Over time, the plaza has become worn down due to the corrosive nature of salt air and a high amount of foot traffic.
The revitalization of the OB Veterans Plaza is a project overseen by the OBCDC, along with the OB Town Council, OB Mainstreet Association, OB Planning Board, OB Community Foundation, & the OB Historical Society that will last as a place of respect & honor Ocean Beach Veterans Plaza, located at the corner of Newport Avenue and Abbot Street, where Newport meets the beach, was constructed in 1997 as
Here is why we need your help.
The current Veterans Plaza is in disrepair with many of the inscriptions, including a Medal of Honor recipient, being so eroded by the corrosive nature of the salt air and a high amount of foot traffic, that many of the names have become illegible.
These are men and women who fought and, for some, paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We need to come together as a community to pay our respect and honor those who protected us by building a more respectful place of honor for our Veterans.
The OBCDC : OCEAN BEACH COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, along with the Ocean Beach Town Council, Ocean Beach MainStreet Association, Ocean Beach Planning Board, Ocean Beach Community Foundation, and the OB Historical Society, have set out to rebuild a brand new Veterans Plaza that will last as a place of respect and honor; a granite wall with the names inscribed within. You can see the design on our website: http://www.obcdc.org/veterans-plaza/
We have already secured all the necessary permits, have already secured a community based design for the new Veterans Plaza, and are ready to build the new Veterans Plaza Memorial....we just need to raise the money to start construction on the project.
We have an initial goal of $10,000 to get the current 84 Veterans names off the ground and restore the ground where the current plaza resides. We are on our way to reaching that goal, but we need your help so our plans and permits won't be in vain.
Please join our effort with a donation of $20, $50, $100, $250, or even more. And please share this with your family and friends to help us spread the word. Every bit will help us to build a respectful place of honor for our Veterans – Thank you for your support!

Veterans Day is right around the corner so we'd like to reflect on the importance of honoring our Veterans:
The brave men & women who fight in any war keep our country safe every day, and whether or not you believe in the cause, these soldiers still are putting themselves out there risking their lives for our freedom. The conditions of war may force them to endure hunger or pain, and even in the face of desperation, they fight on to defend our American values.
Many times, those who survive simply remark, "I was just doing my duty and it is an honor to serve."
But our Veterans also assist those who are in need of aid because of natural disasters or remote villages in other parts of the world facing famine. Their selfless spirits rush in when we all run to safety.
And when they come home, many struggle to find their place in society again.
We cannot forget these brave men & women and the heroic acts they perform on behalf of our country, for we are eternally indebted to them for their service.
That's why we're trying to raise money to build a more respectful place of honor for all Veterans ... this is the least we can do, won't you help us?

We love hearing encouraging stories like this!
"The skills and experiences veterans acquire during their service are incredibly useful within the classroom. Leadership, flexibility, adaptability, an understanding and appreciation of diversity — all help new teachers excel in their work.
