Mindfruit
The love we have for the music of the underground and our need to share it with you is the reason we exist.
We thinks it's time to get back in the game. The absence has been deliberate. We threw our first event with one thing in mind: to give San Diego something different than what was happening at the time. Different how? By focusing on the music in a way that was weird, yet made sense. To put DJs on the same lineup that weren't usually booked for the same event, and doing our best to introduce someone new to the SD scene.
This flyer is from our first event May 12th, 1995... 28 years ago!!
It's been a minute...
Mindfruit SD misses you all

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Pabulum [pab-yuh-luhm]
Pabulum has been in love with Acid House from the moment it graced his ears in 1989. It was a struggle to find the elusive genre until he went to his first rave parties in 1991... this became the catalyst for him to share his love for both by getting as involved as possible! As a dj for the underground scene, his first gig was in 1995 at the legendary “old” World Beat Center in San Diego, California.
Since then, he has made people happy on the dance floor around the world alongside local and international legends including: Mark Farina, Juan Atkins, Tony Humphries, Chemical Brothers, Paul Johnson ...

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Taylor Houseman
Deep, groovy, and soul-stirring are some of the keywords that come to mind when listening to Taylor Houseman’s selections. A young soul with a mature taste in music makes for a great formula to perfectly unite dancers of all ages.
His ability to work the crowd is embedded in the fact that he was raised in a music influenced home which helped ignite his passion for a more developed sound. His affinity for hip-hop while growing up has contributed to an extensive taste for music as his “select cuts” are catered to where he is playing,...

LENGTHY POST.
I thought I’d give you a little background on Mindfruit.
The first Mindfruit party was Friday May 12, 1996. A lot of the events happening in that era were recycling the same DJs. Sure, I loved them as well… it was just that they were always in the same combination. I noticed that everyone, including the DJs, were too comfortable with each other. People were also afraid of introducing new artists. So, I set out to change that. The first lineup was Markie of the Wicked Crew, Hipp-E, Jon Williams (techno god of San Francisco), Daeman (a SD fave back then who loved housey breaks), Fabian (soulful house dj of LA who rarely played in SD), and we introduced Joshua from the La area (who was into acid house). We were the first to bring Halo out to Southern California from Chicago and paired him with Hipp-E, which became the spark of a longtime relationship.
I then moved to Italy for nearly 2 decades! When I came back, I was excited to dance to DJs I couldn’t experience in Italy. Totally different taste in music out there. However, within just four months of being back… it was the same thing. Same DJs over and over (again and in same combos) at the same venues. So despite saying to myself no more events, I brought back Mindfruit Friday June 9, 2017. This first was more of an experiment. Found a venue that wasn’t used very much, brought Dj Diz out from Chicago, paired him with Mark Quark and Ryan Bauer. Nobody knew who Mindfruit anymore, so I hustled like it was my first event ever. Since then, Mindfruit grew at a steady pace with the highlights being hosting Paul Johnson for his San Diego premier, bringing in In Da Hoody & Enter The Tech for the Bloom series, and getting Taylor Houseman as my other resident DJ (and creative partner),
Now, with the first Mindfruit event after the pandemic (𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗙𝗥𝗨𝗜𝗧 𝑰𝑺 𝑩𝑨𝑪𝑲! 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲 April 30: A Warehouse Experience), I am back at square one. It’s like starting over again. This next event is in a new warehouse in Barrio Logan (actually, I wanted to use it pre-pandemic!). NO, it is not on Main Street!!! It is on Logan Ave. With Taylor, we have curated the lineup to be people who push each other to do better. With Mindfruit fundamentally being an ACID HOUSE party, we wanted to put together the next generation of heads that understand this. Acid House is not strictly house music. It is techno, electro, soulful… but above all: it is avant-garde and heady AF. So, whether you are into house, techno, or anything that touches on either… this party is for you!!!
- John Pabulum

How exciting is this lineup???
We feel extremely lucky and honored that these three heavy hitters are helping Pabulum celebrate his birthday! Torrfisk (aka, Scrubfish) has only done one other, Demuir is picky AF (rightly so!), and Mark Grant is honoring us with his first and only one to date!!! NOT. TO. BE. MISSED.

Last month's set by DJ Mark E Quark was one for the books!!!
Catch him tonight playing for the Clam Jam!!!
https://youtu.be/nxhkjGTJJNo
To complete last Saturday's lineup, we decided to release DJ Mark E Quark and Alex Villalobos' sets at the same time.
Have to say: this might be an all time favorite set by Mark. He laid down that grungy, raw, acid, heady vibes with a touch of soul like only he can. This may be why someone in the chat referred to him as GOAT. The visuals that Mike of Pure Imagination Productions provided were the perfect visualization to such a set!
And Alex. . .gotdamn! His set was a ride like no other! Soooo much good acid ...and electro... He definitely delivered a great way to end the night. David of Road Flare Visuals was the perfect match to this aural ride!! His visual ride melted the eyes!!!

The second set to be released is the phenomenal set by Jamie Thinnes, boss of the SEASONS RECORDINGS label. Hands down both an aural and visual experience like no other. The Mindfruit Stream was truly blessed...
We will be releasing Mark Quark and Alex Villalobos' sets tomorrow!!!

We will be releasing all four sets onto our YouTube Channel in the coming days. .. in order that they played during the stream.
So, here is the first. Dylan Payne did a wonderful job opening up for and setting the mood for one was an unforgettable night of music!!! The visuals that Fractal Fusion provided were unreal!! and those lasers by Nu-Salt Laser International at the end... so goood. Enjoy this ALL-VINYL SET!
