When we got to Baja for the first time I went in the sea often. It's pretty cold although we get a strong semi tropical sun. Only 100 miles from San Diego, it's similar topography and weather, but more pristine and undeveloped. I love spending time in San Diego for the urban advantages but the slower pace in Mexico is appealing.
