I’m back! Did you miss me? I missed you!
I very much enjoyed taking a break from all things and enjoying downtown with my family for the last 10 days. How were your holidays? Do anything crazy?
I’m gearing for an amazing 2024. My friend came by last night to set our intentions for the year and here are some intentions I’d like to set for myself this year:
🌸shifting my focus to only what brings me joy
🌸continue to grow through the uncomfortable
🌸don’t be afraid to try new things
🌸don’t be afraid to lay the ground work for things that drive me
I am excited to see how those intentions will come through in work this year. Last year my goals were met and growth was achieved, both in work and play. I was forced through some uncomfortable growing pains through 2023, sowing those seeds for 2024 harvest.
🌱🌱
Happy New Years!
I’m officially on vacation! I will not be reachable until Tuesday December 5th. All messages will be returned then, I truly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.
I’ll see you all soon!

It’s giving 🍁🍂
Hello to everyone! If you are new here I wanted to introduce myself since I have been quite quiet on this app for awhile.
My name is Steph. I have been a hair artist, professionally, for the better part of 15 years. Come March I will celebrate 16 years behind the chair licensed but I’ve been doing hair my whole life.
I am happily married and have been for 10 years. We have 3 beautiful, feral children who will change the world one day along with many animals at home. I am continuously evolving as a professional, a wife, a mother and a human. Creativity is strong within me and I’m what one may call unique and quirky. I like to say it’s just my ADHD 🤣
I’m so happy to have you here, along for the fun social media journey where I try and post creative works of art as well as client education. Feel free to scope out what I’ve shared already and hit me up with any questions you may have!
Thank you for being here ❤️
HAIR MODEL NEEDED! I am booking a content day for October 8th. For this I need TWO hair models who are completely open to whatever I decided to do for the price of a signature giving me permission to share and use the photos and videos for my socials and advertising. If this is something you’d be down for please contact me so we can discuss details. Please send over photos of your current hair in indirect lighting as well as your hair history over the last 4 years if you’d like to discuss participating in my content day.
Thank you so much for your time!
Back in March this beautiful woman came to me seeking help with her hair. After a medical mishap that took it out on her hair, she had tried so much before we ever met. She saw other stylists who couldn’t help her and she was determined to find someone who was willing to help her. Luckily for me, she found one.
Over the last 6 months we have been working hard in the studio to slowly build her hair back up as well as all the work she’s been doing at home in between our appointments.
Today when she came in I was elated to see the massive improvement compared to our first time together. Patience, communication and understanding played a huge role in her hair healing journey and I’m so grateful for her trust in me to be the second half of this partnership.
The first photo was actually our “before” for the second appointment and was already improving from March. This is a great visual!
❤️❤️❤️

Some touch up action for you ❤️
June is almost fully booked and July is currently booking. If you’d like to be added to my waitlist in case of a last minute opening, please message me.
Take a look at this beautiful lady and the incredible change we made to her hair (and I’m not just talking the color.)
When she first came to see me (last photo) I refused to color her hair due to the compromising state she was in. We decided to focus on building the hair up from the inside and do a good haircut to get rid of those stringy ends.
We did 2 appointments of deep conditioning and k18 stand alone treatments as well as treatments at home which brought her hair up to a point I felt comfortable coloring her hair.
She left looking like a whole new woman and her hair looked like brand new hair.
(First photo is final result, second was after treatments and the last was before we did anything)
From her first appointment👉her first fade out👉Her first gloss refresh towards her goal of blending her grays
Before and after a hard water treatment and color.
This beauty and I have worked together for a few years now and we’ve always gone dark, so it was a shock when she’d start coming in with orange highlights. I love twinning with my clients but I don’t think she wants to be a Ginger. We’ve tried coloring over it when I was unsure what it was, that didn’t help at all. The orange tones kept popping out no matter what we did. Once I realized exactly what was happening that helped significantly. Where she lives the water is considered hard water which means there’s minerals and metals in the water that can cause build up on the hair. It can cause the hair to “rust” when the build up isn’t being removed. She’s now using proper products and we are taking necessary steps to relieve the hair of the build up which included a treatment to remove all existing buildup. After we finished the treatment we did a coloring service and she is back to her beautifully dark self and no longer trying to join the gingie side.
If you notice your hair is rusting or turning brassy like this, you may also have hard water build up. A great way to help prevent hard water buildup is getting a filter for your shower, using a clarifying shampoo and if necessary get proper treatments done to help keep your hair in the best shape and color as possible.
This was a fun before and after. She calls it her amethyst hair
Keratin is a protein your body naturally produces and our hair is 95% keratin. So if our hair is mostly protein why can protein be bad for the hair?
Well if someone is overusing protein based products this can cause a build up and can actually do the opposite of its intended use. Protein overload can cause changes in the texture and appearance. Once curly hair may be limp and stringy; straight hair can be dry and brittle.
Protein based products can be very helpful for damaged hair but you want to ensure a lack of protein is the issue so you’re not making it worse. If you have signs of protein overload please stop using protein products immediately and begin with a moisture mask in the mean time until you can see your stylist for a routine that best suits your hair needs.
There can be a lot of other reasons for hair damage but I want to discuss the most common types which are
👉Thermal
👉Mechanical
👉Chemical
✨Thermal damage is heat damage from overuse of heat tools. This can look like frizzy, dry and crunchy ends.
✨Mechanical damage is damage caused by environmental, excessive friction or ripping from hair ties. This can look like an even split up the hair shaft or hair breaking off in the middle of the hair.
✨Chemical damage is from over procession during the chemical process. This can be from coloring, perms or relaxers. This can look like gummy and stretchy hair or lifeless and dull.
What’s the difference between hair loss and hair breakage?
Well, to put it simply hair loss is the loss of hair from the root. This can cause hair to become very thin and the scalp to be showing through. The cause of hair loss can vary but it can stem from vitamin deficiencies, illness, stress, medications, hormones, autoimmune disorders, genetics.
Hair breakage is when the hair breaks from the shaft itself. There’s no specific area of the hair that needs to be breaking in order to be considered hair breakage. This can be in excessive amounts or in certain areas of the head and can cause unruliness. Hair breakage is often a sign of over processing, not using adequate thermal protectant in heat styling or improper hair care.
I was recently asked if I offered scalp treatments and the answer is YES!
What is a scalp treatment? A scalp treatment is an exfoliation of the scalp to break up any dead skill or buildup, leaving soft fresh in its wake. A leave in scalp oil is applied to moisturize the skin.
This treatment is good for most clients. This would not be a safe treatment for clients with conditions such as eczema or psoriasis of the scalp or with fine and brittle hair. Please consult your professional to see if a scalp treatment would be a good fit for you.
It’s important to be honest with your stylist about your hair history even if you may be embarrassed or don’t feel it’s significant. I promise we’re not asking to judge, we’re asking to prepare for what could happen. Hair never lies and we will always know if you failed to mention the box color from 2 years ago because it washed out or has been colored over.
Permanent color does not leave the hair. Even if the color has seemed to fade, there will be left over color molecules inside the hair. This can cause banding when lifting the hair.
Be honest and open with your hair professional so they can be prepared for situations like this. Can you see the different things happening in the hair? Luckily with this particular client I knew was to expect but what you’re seeing now are old box color, overlapped color, professional color and natural color lifting together.
