Decades later, my loathing for Barney has not cooled one little bit. Yes, I know as a parent his message of love and kindness is a generally positive one, but — euuuuugh. I'm glad we're not the only ones to feel this way. They should've interviewed us to testify to the rabidness of Barney's lawyers, though.
‘Barney’ Docuseries ‘I Love You, You Hate Me’ Uncovers Dark Side of Kids Show: Watch the Trailer The core message of the immensely popular “Barney and Friends” kids show was to spread love and kindness to one another, but the trailer for a new Peacock docuseries highlights the idea…
So we didn't ask Jessica Hooper to write haikus for us — all the more reason for me to make a real list of contributors for each issue, to combat my occasionally faulty memory! We were great admirers of Hit It Or Quit It and her insights continue to prove essential. This show is going to be a must watch!

From Predatory Men to Patti Smith’s Puke, Women Who Rock Holds Nothing Back For the genre’s female pioneers, “the music industry was just a gauntlet of as****es that you had to cross through,” Jessica Hopper says of her new Epix docuseries.
If not for the youthful initiative of Joseph Patel, there may never have been a Waffle / Bunnyhop at all. You went and got this interview with Chad Smith, and we were more than inspired to start publishing to provide the outlet. The rest of your early interviews for us really set the tone for what we hoped to achieve as we carried forward with each passing issue.
Thank you for all you have done and all you continue to do, and we're all rooting for you and Questlove on Sunday night.

My third design inspiration was Emigre Magazine. Naturally, I discovered them thanks to their 4AD issue released in 1988 featuring extensive interviews with Vaughn Oliver, label founder Ivo Watts-Russell, and former 23 Envelope photographer Nigel Grierson. That issue was displayed on a high shelf at the old pre-earthquake Bookshop Santa Cruz, taunting me mercilessly from on high until I broke down and asked them for it.
I devoured the contents of the magazine, but there was something unique about Rudy Van der Lans' layouts and Zuzanna Licko's type designs at the time: they did not shy away from their digital origins and emphatically embraced the limitations and crudeness of the technology. Inspired by their work, I knew that the world of art and design was within my grasp and I had access to and knowledge of the tools to do it. I met Noel two years later and we embarked on Waffle, exploring the space between traditional copy and paste and digital manipulations.
(Yes, I was wearing an Emigre t-shirt in that photo of us posted recently.)
Some thoughtful individual took photos of Emigre #9 and posted a PDF of the entire issue. Enjoy.

Meanwhile, our other great design hero, Peter Saville, was awarded the CBE for his service in graphic design. Arise, Sir Peter! Congratulations and well-deserved.
RIP Vaughn, our single biggest design influence.

Great work, Fritz Chesnut 🙌
Review: Paintings that read as anything but: The intriguing 'Test Patterns' of Fritz Chesnut At the L.A. gallery there-there, the boundaries of paint are pushed in works that evoke topographical maps and computer printouts gone awry.
