Each and every day, I tear myself down when I look in the mirror, and I fight the voices in my head. Each and every day, clients tell me about the voices in their own heads, and It breaks my heart. I’ve built my career on the belief that exercise empowers and heals, and that focusing on our strength and the power in our bodies is the way to get ahead of negative self-talk. I’ve never ever wavered on this, even when marketing and pr staff have encouraged me to focus more on loss and less on strength. • And so when my client came to me with accomplishment and positivity, I celebrated it. Here was a woman who felt proud of her body! Here was a woman who gained muscle and strength through exercise! Did she starve herself? F**k no. Did she restrict? Nope. She took care of herself, and she felt so good. • When I posted her journey yesterday on my company’s Instagram feed, I knew that people would judge and I wrestled with it. In the end, I chose to post what I believe to be a positive and healthy and inspiring story • To those of you who feel I have betrayed our community: I ask that we continue to have these hard conversations, but that we choose to assume best intentions and we become curious rather than angry. These conversations and feelings matter, but we’ve gotta have them in a respectful and supportive way. Thank you for reading this
