Sandra lost her voice to stage 3 cancer a year ago, but she could not stop dancing and smiling after learning that she will be receiving $750 per month through Miracle Money: California! Miracle Money: California is one of the largest 100% privately-funded basic income pilots for people experiencing homelessness in the United States, and the first to focus on the potentially life-changing impact of social support. The pilot will distribute more than $1 million to 100 individuals experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles County, San Francisco, and Oakland, who will each receive $750 a month for 12 months. In addition, each participant will be matched one-to-one with a caring volunteer phone buddy for weekly phone calls and texts. The pilot is being funded by Google.org Google.org and other local philanthropists and foundations and is being evaluated through a randomized control trial led by researchers at the University of Southern California.
