This is the image of the eels by .nov.art that I talk about in the most recent episode. Here's what she said about it:
"The eel embodies determination, constant forward movement, and endurance. It reminds us that we are, in fact, on the right path. And yet, the eel shape-shifts, observes, waits in the shadows. It knows that forward movement involves, at times, lying in the dark, in the most mysterious, clouded parts of ourselves, until it is time to strike with all the electricity our souls can muster.
Both personally and collectively, we are all lying in wait, in the muck and dust right now. May we have the patient determination of the eel."

Happy New Year! This episode of the podcast is all about limiting beliefs: the stories we tell ourselves and the lies we believe that keep us from self-actualizing.

As you may know, the pyrotechnics at one couple's party triggered the 11,000+ acre El Dorado wildfire... and the public is baffled/pissed.
What happens when you don't tell people the gender of your baby at all... ever? I explore that in the latest podcast episode of Better for the Boy:

Gender Creative/Neutral/Open Parenting is a new technique that more and more folks are using to rear their kids. You may have heard of "Theybies": babies whose parents choose not to assign them a gender and request that their communities use the non-binary pronouns They/Them.
In this episode I discuss the Gender Creative Parenting method and my own positive and negative feelings about it. My good friend, Mara, is using this approach to raise her awesome kid, Aster. She joins me for the second half of the episode to discuss her experiences. Fast forward to the 37 minute mark to skip straight to my chat with her.

Better for the Boy For Kayla, there was no reason to be good. There was no god, nobody was important including herself, and she had no purpose. People that are born today are going to live until they are 130+ years old! How is this possible? How can YOU signal the cells that make up your body to restore themselves and become young again?
Aging won't look the same as it did in the 20th century. When we reach 100 years old, we can be full of vitality.
This episode is a cup of elixir from the fountain of youth. I found it in David A. Sinclair's groundbreaking work entitled Lifespan: Why We Age―and Why We Don't Have To.
I'll tell you all about it on Episode 9 of Better for the Boy on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher or wherever you get your podcasts.

I found this selfie. It was taken about three years ago after I went to my first AA meeting. I got home, flopped down on the bed and took this picture. I'm so glad I don't have to go back.

It's the story about that weird time I went to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. What is alcohol and how does it affect us?
Alcohol has gotten the best of me on more occasions than I'd like to admit. Lately, I think I'm in control. I'll tell you about it on Episode 8 of Better for the Boy on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher or wherever you get your podcasts.

Oh, and is Thomas Jefferson the worst or was he just a nice guy who happened to live in a culture where black people were enslaved?
In conclusion, I have a little pep talk for Team Humanity.

Here's the clip I was talking about in Episode 6 where Jack refers to Jamal's buff as a durag in Survivor this season.

Survivor - Jamal Teaches Jack About WHITE PRIVILEGE after his subtle RACIST Comment!! Jamal teaches Jack about white privilege after he made a subtle racist comment about black people as Jack appreciates his teachings

This is what I was talking about in Episode 6:
We Should Stop Saying “People of Color” When We Mean “Black People” I understand why people in society use the term “people of color”: it replaces the outdated term “colored people” with one that is more…
1. Whoa it's Episode 6! Listen wherever you get your podcasts. It's scary to be a white person sharing thoughts on race. I can't seem to get out of it today though because I am currently a white person with a lot of thoughts about race and a podcast.
I ask what's up with the term 'People of Color'? Is it appropriate/politically correct?
I was raised in a small city with a huge majority of white people making up the demographics of the population. I thought I was colorblind and we were all the same. Turns out, it's a lot more complicated than that.
Lots of awkward stories about me fumbling around trying not to look racist.
2. Growing up in a white community, they showed us images like this and told us no matter what race we were, we were all the same.
3. Wait, this is a white person bar?! I had no idea!!
4. Screenshot from Solange’s beautiful video for her song “Don’t Touch my Hair”
5. Dave Chapelle in white face.
6. Jenny Slate and Captain American break up. I know nothing about their work, I know everything about their split.
7. The cultural iceberg illustrates all of the things our cultures influence about our selves.
8. Survivor season 39 contestants Jamal and Jack.
9. Documentary Aprille Flint recommended called RACE: The Power of an Illusion. Rent it on Vimeo and we’ll talk about it in the next episode!!
Okay I’ll admit - my diy, sustainable(?) baby Charlie brown costume may not have been the best costume at the library today but I think he really worked it.
Look alive, it's Episode 5! Here's images of a bunch of the stuff I'm talking about.
Yikes I told everyone I would shop exclusively at thrift stores for my clothing and now I have to actually do it! It's hard.
Also, in this episode I go full hypocrite on men wearing sweatpants outdoors after viciously defending yoga pants in a previous episode.
What's so bad about fast fashion anyways?
