We had a lovely time with the whole Front Porch Communities & Services team earlier this week -- thank you to the Coalition of Agencies Serving the Elderly Case for putting on a great holiday party!
We are always flattered when someone takes time out of their day to share their thoughts and thanks with us. Receiving a testimonial from a happy home sharer is a surefire way to make our holidays brighter!
On this , help your community members find the right place for them. Ask us how to donate to our program or our parent company, Front Porch. Your contribution helps us maintain our high level of participant interaction, mediation, and custom Matching process!
We are flying high from our recent good news -- just like this hang glider over the Marin Hills!
In the past month, our team has made SIX new Matches, stabilizing housing for 13 people! We have participants from all over the spectrum, from 24 years old to 91 years young.
Our available options ranged from $500/month to $1550. There truly can be a Match for everyone, and we want to help you find your best Home Match! If you or someone you know is looking for affordable housing, or has extra room in their home and is looking for supplemental income, send us a message or give us a call today.
Congratulations to our sister program Front Porch Social Call on their recent award!
Congrats to the Social Call team for winning a Bronze McKnight's Senior Living Tech Award! We created a new system to make more meaningful matches between volunteers and participants. Wherever you may live in the U.S., whatever your conversational style is, however you view the world; this tool makes it easier to find your match. So proud of the team!
Check out this article from our sister program Social Call! Friendships are vital, and we're always happy to see the friendships that blossom out of our Matches.
Friendships Reflect Our Worth — Coalition to End Social Isolation & Loneliness As Maya Angelou so aptly stated, “A friend may be waiting behind a stranger’s face.” We all start as unfamiliar others before finding ourselves on a unique path to friendship. Each path to friendship is a one of a kind experience, with specific scaffolding forming the bonds beneath the friends...

We had a lovely time representing the whole Home Match team last Friday at the Live Strong Expo! Thank you to The Concord Senior Center for hosting such an important event to keep seniors healthy and active. We're looking forward to the next one!
We had a great time tabling with CLAM at the 2022 Inverness Fair this past weekend! It was a beautiful sunny day in West Marin filled with good food, excellent music, and some great community. We love meeting other hard-working community organizations, and of course the community themselves! We're looking forward to the next event -- keep your eyes on our page to see where we'll be next.
The affordable housing crisis, not to mention the pandemic, has affected everyone. The strong opening line to this article says it all: "More than 33% of Americans 65 years of age and older do not have money saved for retirement."

Home sharing is more vital than ever before as we continue to experience record high inflation and housing costs. Check out this video from PBS NewsHour for more information about the need for home sharing:

We are proud to introduce our newest team member, Program Manager Lucie Ashley!
Lucie speaks English and German, and sports a BA in International Relations from San Francisco State University, as well as a Master of International Forestry with a focus on community forest management from the University of British Columbia. She has 14 years of experience working with non-profits in diverse environments, and a passion for engaging with the public! Though Lucie's studies and career have been diverse, everything she does has been grounded in service to and strengthening of communities.
In her down time, Lucie enjoys walking in the woods, spending quality time with friends, and exploring philosophy across disciplines. We can't wait to get started on finding more Matches!
We are super excited to share our latest Match from Forest Knolls! Solome (right) is a semi-retired doula who was looking for a roommate to bring down the cost of her rental. She enjoys spending time meditating, in nature, and with her family.
We found Abby (left), an NPS employee out in Point Reyes who was looking for an affordable housing option close to work. They were all smiles when we brought them together -- we think this Match is going to be quite the peaceful one, especially now that both feel more secure financially.
If you or someone you know has extra room in their home and is looking for some extra cash, or is looking for an affordable place to live, send us a message today!

We are thrilled to share another Match from Fairfax! Our Home Provider, Gina (right), was living alone in her 3-bedroom house, and was hoping to find someone looking to share a spiritual path of meditation and self-reflection.
Our Home Seeker, Sequoia (left), has been living a monastic lifestyle for the past decade, and part of reintegrating herself into society while working at Spirit Rock Meditation Center was Home Match! Gina has been going to Spirit Rock for years, and was so excited to be able to provide housing for one of their employees. Sequoia is excited to be able to live near work -- we loved seeing them hit it off so quickly! Move-in day was all smiles.

This article highlights why home sharing is more important than ever. "Today, more than 3 million older adults live in households that... [leave] them one unplanned medical or car repair bill away from eviction." We don't want anyone to have to choose between rent and food. We had a great time last weekend during all the festivities at the City of Mill Valley's Memorial Day Parade! The pancake breakfast filled us up with some delicious food and wonderful conversation. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to talk about home sharing. We look forward to continuing the conversation at the next event -- or right here! If you have questions about home sharing, or want to start a Home Match application, leave us a comment or send us a message today.
Our third Match comes from the City of Mill Valley! Our Home Provider has been living in her 2-bedroom apartment for many years, and was struggling to afford her rent. She was worried about having to empty her spare bedroom of nick-knacks and furniture, so she was looking for someone who was traveling light and seeking a more short-term rental.
Our Home Seeker is a young woman from Georgia who is coming to Mill Valley for a summer internship at a local landscape design firm! We're happy we were able to give her a space close by her internship while providing a safety net for a long-time Mill Valley resident.
If you or someone you know has extra room in their home or apartment, or are looking for affordable housing in Mill Valley or the surrounding areas, send us a message today!
Our second Match comes from a pair of empty nesters in Fairfax! Their daughter just moved out of their home, so they hoped to support the community while creating some long-term financial stability.
We found a young man who is a student at the College of Marin and works at a local hardware store. He was looking for an affordable housing solution while completing his associates degree.
Our student gets to live near work and school at an affordable rate, and our home providers get the comfort of long-term financial well-being! If you or anyone you know has extra room in their home, or are looking for affordable housing, send us a message today.
We are very excited to share some of our new Matches! Our first pair's Home Provider is a veteran of the program. She has been living in her home in San Rafael since she was a child, and now has a full house again with her third spare room occupied, allowing her the finances she needs to stay in her childhood home!
Our Home Seeker is a young man from Italy who just moved to Marin for a job at a solar firm. He's an avid bicyclist and now gets to live in Marin without a car!
If you or someone you know has extra room in their home, or is looking for an affordable place to live, send us a message today.
Home Match Marin would like to give a shout-out to the Rotary Club of Sausalito for hosting Director Luke Barnesmoore recently, and for all the work they do in the Sausalito community!

Older adults ask peers, friends to be roommates - San Francisco Chronicle, 3/27/2022 Charles Barbarino, left, and Bob Riley became roommates through HIP Housing. The program matches households that have extra space with individuals seeking places to live.
Do you have questions about home sharing? Are you curious about the Home Match process? We have you covered!
Home Match's home sharing model was originally developed to support older adults who seek to remain independent in their housing situation. Though we've expanded over time to support a more diverse community in creating and maintaining healthy and compatible matches, we remain focused on fulfilling that mission!
Home Providers join our program for a range of often interrelated reasons: financial support with rent or property taxes, feeling safer at home knowing that someone will be around in case of a slip or fall resulting in the need for medical support, or company -- with limited mobility, some older adults are at a much greater risk of social isolation and the accompanying health issues. Or, they simply have extra space in their homes or the available space for an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU), and want to support their community by providing affordable housing!
Home Seekers join our program for similar reasons, but one of the biggest draws for our program is the desire to live closer to work. Many Seekers have cut their commutes from 2-3 hours in cars to short 10-15 minute walks!
For more information about our program, including the finer details of how it works, as well as eligibility requirements and office contact information, can be found on our website! Visit us at https://covia.org/programs/home-match/
Home Match - Front Porch Home Match connects people with extra room in their homes with individuals looking for an affordable living option. Home providers gain extra security while helping people live in their community at a reduced cost.
We are thrilled to announce our new Home Match Program Director for Marin County and the City of Mill Valley, Luke Barnesmoore!
Luke completed his BA in International Relations at San Francisco State University, and his MA in Human Geography at the University of British Columbia. His participatory research into health and well-being in urban communities led him to transition from his university career into non-profit community work with organizations in Vancouver, BC and eventually into the San Francisco Bay Area.
Luke brings a deep understanding of the history of cities and urban planning to bear in developing creative solutions for contemporary urban issues like housing shortages and environmental degradation.
In his free time, Luke carries on his passion for philosophy and poetry in conversation with the liminal spaces between natural and urban landscapes.
We hope you'll join us in giving Luke a warm welcome to the team!
