For A Time Such As This

I have so much going on, and I am crumpling under the stress, so much so that I have spent MONTHS battling a severe eczema flare up... So, while I have not been working the doula life (because who would want me to be around when I look like this?), I have REALLY missed interacting with mamas and babies. So, really long story made marginally shorter, I learned something new today, and I wanted to share it!

According to a blog posted by Regenerate Health Medical Center, 9 out of 10 eczema causes stem from the gut. Why is this relevant?

It goes on to say that "the first encounter causing gut permeability in babies is c-section birth and/or not being breast-fed. When a child is born vaginally, the baby is exposed to Mom's beneficial, immune-supporting bacteria. Similarly, since all babies are born with a leaky gut, breast milk provides specific proteins to help baby's gut lining heal. The breast milk provides necessary bacteria for a healthy microbiome."

The article was focused on eczema, but WOW! Breast milk is so important, and when possible, so is a vaginal birth. And in case you didn't know, doula care cuts a woman's odds of a cesarean in half :)

I am well past these days, but I laughed out loud because I remember them so vividly. You just need one good move, ladies, to take down your tiny opponent, but how do you keep hi I'm there?! The follow on picture should be of a half-diapered toddler running his victory lap :)

In less than a month, I have been blessed to attend TWO births! They were both totally different from each other, and they were both very special to me. I have now witnessed two beautiful young women become beautiful new moms. I am so proud of these ladies, and I am excited to see what the future holds for these growing families. At the same time, I am also looking forward to whatever Abba has planned for me and my doula career. Baruch Hashem! ❤️

Happy eighth day of Chanukah!

On this first night of Chanukah, watching the one little candle flickering in the darkness, aided only by the shamash light hovering over it, I am reminded that HaShem is the Source of all life, and all life begins with a spark. Thank You, Abba, for all of those sparks in the world and for the light those little ones will bring to the world when they are ready to leave the womb.

I laughed so hard, I stopped breathing. May I have lovelier days in my future :)

Some days, it can feel like there is too much to do and no way to "win". What can possibly be cut from my to-do list without the whole world imploding?! Then, another momma comes along and reminds me, "Your babies are the priority." As mom's and moms-to-be, it is important to stay focused on what is truly important. We must take care of ourselves because WE are what our babies need.

I know this to be true, and yet I am guilty of testing it. Thanks for the reminder :)

When I saw this, I just laughed and then smiled awkwardly. What about this picture makes me uncomfortable? I nursed all of my children in public, but I never did it without being self-conscious... And then, my little girls would bust out a pose like this, and I was honestly embarrassed... Why? Because I thought I was doing something wrong? No, I just thought I would be judged. My mom nursed my siblings and I back when formula was the standard, but I had never SEEN someone do it until I was an adult. Now, when I see someone else's child emulating the breastfeeding example set for them, I smile. It IS normal, and this child knows that. When she grows up, she won't be as awkward as I was. Well done, momma... Raising up your little ones in the way they should go.

Life during Sukkot can be crazy. Forgive my tardiness.

I love this... The best job in the world happens to be the hardest.

It's a job that came with no prior experience.

There are no days off, and no sick days.

It doesn't come with a paycheck, even though you're always pulling overtime.

The entire world wants to weigh in on your performance review.

It often requires functioning at a high stakes level while completely sleep deprived.

Despite giving it your all, there's constant questioning of your ability; if you're doing enough, if you're doing too much.

There's no one right way to do the job. And the job requirements are ever changing.

It's one of the toughest jobs out there, and once it starts it's never ending.

And... I love it.

I love being a mom.
